Ok, perhaps I should know what is necessary here... I might have fallen asleep during that part of the lesson. ;-) What am I not doing on the following record that I should be doing?

The issue is you do not have the mother of Hollie C. Moore attached to the record of Hollie. If you use change to get Hollie in the position where Russell D. Van Winkle presently is in the left had column - you should be able to see where Hollie's mother can be attached.

Sometimes it is easier to see with a picture. By shifting the focus, you can see that the record needs to be attached to Carrie Spates:
