unclear reference numbers
I am indexing the US, Missouri—County Marriages, 1806–1969 [Part P] [M9B9-P8G]. There are no examples of this type of record in your field help. The one I have does not have any indication on it that it is an index or not but after seeing a number of these I am assuming it is an index BUT is the reference number the page number in the top left and right hand corners on the page or is it the page number by each entry? My husband is doing reviewing on these and some indexers have put the page number at the top of the page as the reference number and others the page number following the entries.
Also, these have no individual marriage date but do have a handwritten date "1848-1865" on them. Do I put this range date in as the marriage date?
Wish there were better examples to help us in your batch instructions!

@Rayma Thank you for sharing your batch number. After looking at it I do agree with you that it is a marriage index and according to the instructions: For entries on a marriage index, type the appropriate reference number associated with the entry on the index, not the page number of the index itself. So for the first entry, you would type the page number listed after the volume number which would be page 114 because in the listed priorities that page number takes priority. If multiple reference numbers are recorded, only type 1 of them in the reference number field, based on the following priority: Page Number, Record or volume number, License or certificate number.
For the marriage date, you are correct in making it blank.
I hope this is of help to you both and thank you for indexing and reviewing these records for the families searching for information about their loved ones.

Thank you so much for clarifying! My husband who is doing reviewing is glad to know for sure which reference number to use as well!
