MSGZ-1NC Lancashire church records - a 1725 question
Christenings 1725. I was given a partially indexed record. They have listed the father's occupation as well as their last name under the father's surname. I understand why because many of these occupations are Potter, Weaver etc... which became common British surnames. However, if somebody already has a last name should I keep the occupation as written or just erase all of the occupations they have listed under surname?
Thanks!

Hello,
I'm sure you are correct to delete the occupations. Otherwise, there would be half the village with the surname "weaver" or some such.
Just a thought, I think the surname of the first family is Travis, rather than Ewwis. It's not very clear as it's right at the top of the page, but that's what it looks like to me.
Hope this helps
Hilary.

I opened the batch and could see what you are talking about, the second entry shoemaker, but I am not knowledgeable enough to give you an answer for this project. Sorry, hopefully some one will be able to assist.

Larry, thank you for taking a look. I have started erasing the occupations, which I hope doesn't lead to problems in case these folks then took their occupation as their last name. Hopefully by this time in history people had permanent surnames. Thank you again!

Thank you! You are most correct. I have found a number of Travis surnames on this list. I was paying more attention to the occupation than the actual last name - insert eye roll here -- I Will have to make sure to re-do the first half. Thank you for your help!
