Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
[ And, I happen to be a Member of the Church ... ]
Just in passing ...
I would humbly suggest, that in regard to ERRORS, a "Membership Record", of a Member of the Church ...
That would have to be addressed/fixed, by/through the "Clerk", of the Ward/Branch, of the Member.
Whereas, whether, that will later "Rectify", what ALREADY appears in 'FamilySearch', that is another matter.
ie. "Automatically" by the "System"
[ To which, I am NOT aware ... ]
IF, the "System", DOES NOT, automatically "Rectify", the situation/circumstance, AFTER any necessary "Changes" in the "Membership Record", of the Church; THEN, such may NEED, to be done, "Manually", in the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch'.
Personally ...
I would go down the track, in the first instance, of getting the situation/circumstance, "Rectified", on the "Membership" Record, of the Church, for the individual/person, by the "Clerk", of their Ward/Branch; and, then, give it some time (at least, a minimum of x24 Hours), for the "Membership" System, of a Member of the Church; and, 'FamilySearch', to "Synchronise"; BEFORE, making ANY required "Changes", in the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch'.
Just my thoughts.
Good Luck.
I hope, that this may help/assist, somewhat.

Thank you for your help. The person will be following up with his ward membership clerk.
