Why can I not access my family tree

VeraErasmus
VeraErasmus ✭

According to the system I am in Japan.

I am in South Africa.

Want to check if I also lost all the du Plessis information in my tree due the Gedcom files that somebody downloaded.

Hi, thanks for your message. What is happening when you try and access your family tree.

I have had a look and the system currently says you live in South Africa, so I'm not sure if you've changed this since your message.

I can also see details of the people you've added to the tree, including some "du Plessis", for example I can see Heiletje Levina Etresia Du Plessis with id 94C8-SB4. So you can use find by id and look for this person.

    Hope this helps you.

    Thanks.

I can not access my tree.

The system, for some reason sees me as living in Japan.

    I am in SA.

Would like to know why I can not access my tree anymore

    Regards

    Vera

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    Just in passing ...

Check the "Settings", of you actual Computer.

Specifically, the "Region", under "Time & Language".

Sometimes, the "Region", gets "Changed"; especially, if you "Travel" a bit; or, 'fiddle' with the 'Time'.

There was a post, not so long back, just like yours.

It said, the User/Person was in "Japan"; when, they were not.

But, later, they did remember, that they had 'fiddled', with the "Region" (and, "Time") settings.

    Just a thought.

    Good Luck.

I hope, that this may help/assist, somewhat.

O no...it worked for 2 minutes and switched to the Japan story again.

    My location shows South Africa.

    What can I do next

    Vera

    In that case ...

It may have just been, a "Server" Error/Malfunction ...

    It happens ...

After all, "Computers" are, Designed; Built; and, Programmed, by "Humans", they are 'fallible' ...

    Vera

    O.K., right.

IF, you have not already, done so; THEN, do as I originally suggested ...

Check the "Settings", of you actual Computer.

Specifically, the "Region", under "Time & Language".

'See', if that sheds any light, on the matter.

    And, advise.

    Vera

    Hm ...

    Again ...

    In that case ...

It may have just been, a "Server" Error/Malfunction ...

[ For your "Region" - ie. South Africa ... ]

    It happens ...

[ ie. Different, Times; and, Places ... sometimes, "Short" Lived; whereas, sometimes NOT ... ]

After all, "Computers" are, Designed; Built; and, Programmed, by "Humans", they are 'fallible' ...

    Brett

ps: One 'last ditch' thought ...

▬ Check your "Settings", in your 'FamilySearch' Account

▬ Specifically, under the First/Default, "Profile" 'Tab', at the bottom ...

.... make sure, that the "Country or Location", is 'South Africa'; and, NOT, 'Japan' ...

Oh well, that 'Last Ditch' one, was really just ... 'clutching at straws' ...

Sorry, I am out of ideas ...

    Brett

ps: Check, with your INTERNET Service Provider ... maybe, they had a problem/issue ...

..... OR, they MAY be able to ... 'shed some light' on the matter ...

We use two different service providers and the problem is the same with both.

    In that case ...

I am not sure, that 'FamilySearch', is the problem/issue ...

Sounds, more like an INTERNET Service Provider, problem/issue ...

Who can give me advice on how to sort this out.

I can not think that two service providers have the same issue.

I really need to solve this

    I understand that ...

A "Moderator" [ ie. 'FamilySearch' "Support" ( Personnel ) ] DID respond originally.

Hopefully, they; or, another "Moderator", CAN follow-up ...

Give them a little time ...

    Good Luck.

    @VeraErasmus

You have illustrated how FamilySearch is showing your "Country or Location" as South Africa, so perhaps you could provide a screenshot that shows where the "Japan" location is coming up. Is this connected to your "Timeline" or, perhaps, "Discovery" messages that you receive from FamilySearch?

    @Norm Jones

    Norm

    It's 'Brett'.

    So, what was the problem/issue?

Surely, you people at 'FamilySearch' "Support" DID NOT have to "Authorise" the Account; as, being, in "Japan".

When, 'Vera', is in "South Africa"; and, NOT, in "Japan".

Or, is "South Africa", NOW, one of those "Countries"; where, an Account must be "Authorised", as well ...

And, the ERROR 'Message', just DOES NOT, indicate/include, "South Africa" ...

    Just curious ...

It was nothing that mystical @Brett .

The world wide web believes that Vera is transiting Japan at some point, but I will likely never find that setting to change it. So the most elegant solution is to just go with the flow.

    @VeraErasmus

    Vera

HOW you are considered, to be in "Japan"; whereas, in fact, are in "South Africa", is certainly a "Mystery".

I hope, that you may, be able, to get to the 'Bottom" of it.

At least, you are NOW "Authorised" to work in 'FamilySearch' ... Hm ...

But, the 'Question' STILL remains; as, to WHY, you needed such "Authorisation", in the first place ...

As, as far as I am aware, "South Africa", is NOT included, in the List, of one of those, "Countries", and, "Unions", around the World; where, such "Authorisation" is required.

    And ...

    Believe me ...

I am very well aware, of the various, "Countries", and, "Unions", around the World; where, such "Authorisation" is required, for the various Parts of 'FamilySearch', having experienced such, when we travelled the World, for a number of Years, not so long back.

Hence, WHY, I participated, in your post, in the first place ...

ie. Been there ... done that ...

    Again ...

At least, you are NOW "Authorised" to work in 'FamilySearch' ...

    Good Luck.

    All the best.

And, I am sorry, that I was not able to help/assist.
