Problem restoring a deleted person

I am trying to restore George Penman 9QYG-QGM who was incorrectly merged with George Penman LD73-LHJ. When I use the Find Person by ID screen to find the deleted record for George Penman 9QYG-QGM, the results shows George Penman LD73-LHJ not George Penman 9QYG-QGM.

@AlanAllred If too many changes occur to a merged record, it becomes impossible for the system to restore the original. Do you need some help adding the correct George Penman back? I would be glad to help with this. Sam 🙂

    Hi Alan,

Being unable to bring the correct person up when you search by ID may be because of the merge.

However, If you click on the link below, or copy and paste it into your browser you will find instructions on how to restore a deleted person's record that work with 9QYG-QGM.

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-restore-a-deleted-record-for-a-person-in-family-tree

Hope all goes well for you.

    Kind regards,

    Barry

I followed those instructions. The problem is it brings up the merged record not the deleted person.

Yes I would like to get these two George Penman records corrected. First , the ID for the George Penman that needs to be restored is 9QYG-QLG not 9QYG-QGM. I have attached images of the two marriage certificate for these George Penman's which show that are two separate people with different parents and ages.

George Penman 9QYG-QLG Marriage Certificate DGS Film 8074113 image 40.jpg

If the record for George Penman 9QYG-QLG can be restored, the sealing to his spouse Catherine Kilgour 9QYG-QGM spouse should also be corrected. The George Penman 9S4T-HSB is the extracted birth record for George Penman with parents William Penman and Mary Edmonstone. The restored George Penman 9QYG-QLG can then be merged with George Penman 9S4T-HSB. Let me know if you need additional information.

    Thanks

    Hi Alan,

I've just tried again, and it works just fine, so I'm not sure where the problem is.

Go to 'Find' and enter the ID number for the currently saved George Penman, LD73-LHJ

On the right hand side, find 'Latest Changes' and click on 'show all'. This will open a new window and show all the changes made to George Penman LD73-LHJ. One of these changes will be his merge with George Penman 9QYG-QLG

Scroll down the page until you come to the one that is labelled 'merge' (12th down) and click on George Penman 9QYG-QLG. This will bring up a white dialogue box with a black stripe across it saying 'Person Deleted'. In the bottom right corner of this box, click on 'Person'.

A new record will appear for George Penman 9QYG-QLG stating 'Person Deleted in a banner across the top. In that same box that states that the record is deleted. you will find 'Restore Person' in the bottom right hand corner. Click on this, and George Penman 9QYG-QLG will be restored to the tree and you can then merge him with George Penman 9QYG-QLG as suggested.

Let me know if you have any further problems with this.

    Kind regards,

    Barry

As part of the recent disimprovements ::ahem, sorry:: changes to the Find function, they've decided that it knows better than you: when you search for a merge-deleted profile, it shows you the surviving profile instead. The only remaining access to the archived profile is from the survivor's change log.
