When I try to add something in memories it tells me it is a duplicate

How can this be when it is not in the gallery and has not been used on any other person's page. The memories i am trying to add are my step-father's birth certificate and the back of it where his parents' marriage is recorded. Very frustrating!

as you allude to - if it reports it as a duplicate - you should able to find the same item in your gallery - and that should be the ONLY place you have to look.

how many items do you have in your gallery? do you possibly have so many items in your gallery that it would be easy to miss if you weren't careful?

    this is the Galleries link:

so you are saying you dont see the item already in your gallery?

Do you by chance make use of ALBUMS in your gallery?

Thank you, Dennis, I found the problem, I had to go to the little tiny word that said more!

ok - but that "more" would not have been on your gallery page - that would have been on the profile page of the person record.

when looking for duplicates - it is always best to go to the gallery and check there for the duplicate.

you may or may not see the duplicate on the profile page of one specific person.

the gallery has the list of ALL items you have ever uploaded.

Yes, the gallery was where I found the word 'more' showing where the duplicates that I was being told were there. I did not see that at first. I learnt a lesson to be more observant of what I am doing in memories. Thank you for your help. I really love this work and am astonished of all the memories I can add for my family members!

As far as I know - the true Gallery - does NOT have a "more" link - it attempts to show all the images - no matter how many there are on a single page.

However - IF you are sitting on the profile record of a particular person in Family Tree and you go to their memories tab - if they have more than a screen full of records - it will indeed show the "more" link as you allude to.

but those are two different places not to be confused with each other. though they both show memories items.

    • one the Gallery - which has ALL the items you have ever uploaded and shows them on a single page.
    • and the memories tab of a particular person - where you will indeed see the "more" link.

this is the link to the gallery:

this is a link to a person who has so many memories items you will indeed see a "more" link on their memories tab

Thank you, Dennis, I know all that! I did discover where the missing certificates had gone further down after 'more', strangely though, they were not in the gallery. All rectified now and thank you for your support at this time. Would hate to lose a memory!

I have a similar problem. I have searched the gallery, but the duplicate document is not there. Where else can it be. I know I downloaded it several days ago, but I can't find it. If I try to reload it, it says it's a duplicate. Help please

Hi Linda, When you go into memories and see what you have posted there, you will find in the lower left-hand corner a little word that says more' click on that and it will open up the rest of the memories for that person. All the best

I tried that. I can't find them in the gallery, not in what I have posted.

did you check on the m eories page where it says its a duplicate, that you have the whole page as in the bottom left hand conrner it tells you 'more' and that opens the page up and reveals what you have already posted

I finally found one of the missing ones. I had somehow put it in my archives. That one is now back where it belongs, but still haven't found the other one. I don't have enough memories on the page to need the "more" thing. I've had this issue before, but found if I wait until the next day, it appears. This one doesn't seem to be working that way however. When I go to my complete gallery of memories, it is not there, but still loads as a duplicate.
