I find a baptismal record in Prussia, Germany in 1834 in Lutheran Baptismal records, for one of my ancestors. All of the records on the page show both a mother's name and a father's name. My ancestor shows only a mother's name. Does this mean the child was born out-of-wedlock, or did they just somehow forget the father's name?

I've encountered marriage records where they forgot to write down the bride's name, so nothing is impossible, but yes, a child recorded with only a mother is illegitimate.
