Fix Email Notification Selection

I keep receiving emails from FamilySearch from categories I am unsubscribed to.

I unsubscribed from FamilySearch Information in late January/early February when the deluge of RootsTech emails started coming out. RootsTech is included in the "FamilySearch Information" category of email notifications. Since then, I have received at least 10 emails from Family Search specifically about RootsTech and have clicked the "unsubscribe" link on each of them, only to find I should not have received them in the first place. Apparently my Church account can send those emails, too, but I have been unsubscribed from all of the Newsletter-type emails sent out by the Church for nearly a year. I would still like to receive emails applicable to my personal family tree, which is why I have not unsubscribed entirely.

The inability to unsubscribe from certain emails could be considered misleading marketing or even spam, and should be fixed as soon as possible. Attached are my current Email preferences, which were set more than a month ago.

I believe in the rootstech registration/post conference surveys there were contact settings/options. But I don't find those in rootstech preferences to change them:

That database is probably kept separately but you can probably contact them to be removed ([email protected]):

    @Amanda Rene Nielson

    Amanda

    Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

[ And, I happen to be a Member of the Church ... ]

    Just in passing ...

    I am NOT certain ...

    But ...

    That Said ...

    Through a recent post ...

I think, that I have identified, a DISCREPANCY, that MAY be causing, CONFLICT ...

    Just in passing ...

Even if you DO NOT have (or, use) the "Mobile" Application, for 'FamilySearch', on a "Mobile" Device ...

IF, you have a "Mobile" Device, that is capable of running, the "Mobile" Application, for 'FamilySearch'; THEN, I humbly suggest, that you "Download", the "Mobile" Application, for 'FamilySearch', on the device, just to 'see', if there is (or, may be) a "Conflict".

I have the "Mobile" Application, for 'FamilySearch', on my "Mobile" Phone; and, really ONLY use such, for either, "Shown and Tell"; or, to "Check" something, when I am out and about. I NEVER try to do any REAL work on/through the "Mobile" Application, for 'FamilySearch'. The "Mobile" Application, for 'FamilySearch', is GREAT, for just, "Shown and Tell"; or, to "Checking" something, 'on the run'.

    And ,,,

    That Said ...

I am glad, that I DO have the the "Mobile" Application, for 'FamilySearch', on my "Mobile" Phone; as, I found that there were DISCREPANCIES (and, hence CONFLICTS), just IN / WITH, the DEFAULT "Settings", in the "Mobile" Application, for 'FamilySearch', compared to the ORIGINAL Computer "Web" version, of 'FamilySearch'.

    Along the same lines ...

NOW bear in mind, that the matter was about "Text" 'Message' ...

But, such could ALSO, equally apply, to "E-mail" 'Messages' ...

    To Wit ...

There appears to be, a DISCREPANCY (and, hence CONFLICT), of HOW the various messages, are received; between, the ORIGINAL Computer "Web" version, of 'FamilySearch'; and, the "Mobile" Application, of 'FamilySearch', most probably; CAUSING, problems/issues.

    EXAMPLE:

    (1) ORIGINAL Computer "Web" version, of 'FamilySearch'

What actually happens, if you have ENABLED, the receive, of "Text Messages", in the "Settings", of your 'FamilySearch' Account.

Although, that particular "Setting" ONLY references:

    Messages from Other Users

Receive a text message when another user messages you through FamilySearch.

And, NOT the MANY Other messages ...

    Email Messages

    FamilySearch Information

Receive emails that contain tips, inspiration, news, and Rootstech Information.

    Discoveries about My Ancestors

Receive personalized emails about your ancestors.

    Messages from Other Users

Receive email when another user messages you through FamilySearch.

    Receive and Offer Help

Allow me to receive an invitation from a helper, or send an invitation to help others.

    Shared Temple Ordinances

Allow others to share temple opportunities with you.

    Family Groups

Receive emails related to group activity.

    ie.

    image.png

It would appear, that "Settings", to "Enable" the receipt, of "Text Messages" (via. a Mobile Device); through, the ORIGINAL Computer "Web" version, of 'FamilySearch', MAY cover ALL of the above - like it or not.

    WHEREAS ...

    (2) "Mobile" Application, of 'FamilySearch'

The "Mobile" Application, of 'FamilySearch', is much More COMPLEX ...

    Settings ...

    image.png

    Subscriptions ...

    image.png

    Notifications ...

    image.png

    Hm ...

    TOTALLY Different ...

WHICH takes "Precedence" ... and, more importantly ... WHERE ...

Hence, possible DISCREPANCY; due to, the CONFLICTS ...

That is a matter, that definitely NEEDS to be investigated; and, addressed/fixed.

    Just my thoughts.

    'Food for thought' ...

I know, that this does not help/assist; but, I hope, that this may provide you with, some additional, insight; and, perspective.

    Brett
