I think one of the biggest tips for improving your online genealogical experience is to become involved in social media and discussion forums. Yes, emotions run high and so many people would rather ask something in a Facebook group rather than google it themselves, but I have picked up so much useful information. I can get sucked in researching a question, and it gives me more practice at finding my way around my 2 preferred platforms, FamilySearch and Ancestry.
