UP Carats or Links in Tree views
As you follow a family member's ancestors, the little carat "^" could be colored green when there is an additional father or mother up the line.
When there is no additional ancestor at the end of the line, then the carat could be colored red.
Currently, I spend time and clicks going up and down the line. The colored carats would improve the navigation of both up and down lines.

User interface design discourages the use of color as the only clue to a detail, especially red versus green, because colorblind users would be unable to use the function.
(No, traffic lights would not be anything like we know them if they were being designed today.)

Upvoting, with a small modification:
Carat vs empty circle would achieve the same objective, which is to give a visual signal that the tree extends out of view.
