Norway Immigration
I am at a brick wall for Carrie Haglund gzcn-zwk, my paternal great grandmother. To locate her coming to America and where she came from in Norway. Most records show Haglund as maiden name. Her death record, which i know is correct from family documentation shows father John Engebritsen and Jenny Houelsen. Of course all bets are off on the spelling. I have already viewed research helps on Family Search. Anyone willing to try and solve this? Thanks!

Both my parents are Swedish and mostly Norwegian with Grandpa being the first generation to immigrate here. A lot of Norwegians are tracked by their christening records but even when they came to U.S. all their records here were also written in Norwegian for about the first 100 years I was told when I was confused why church records in Minnesota and Wisconsin for christening were still all in Norwegian.....I was told by adult missionaries at the Riverton Family Search Building that that was typical for them to still be in Norwegian and not English. If you are in Utah I got that information from the two adult missionaries that specialized in Norwegian records when it was their turn at the Riverton Family Search Building and could read them all and I happened to be at the building that night as a real beginner so they were so nice to have. They had a lot o clues how to find things by the customs of the Norwegian people I would have never searched. This was before Covid but then I believe they had Norwegian/Swedish nights for those missionaries that were Tuesday and Thursday evenings. I would contact the Riverton Utah Family Search Center to see if they still do that or if they do a zoom connection for now till the pandemic is over. Someone speaking the language and familiar with Norway helps a lot. I wish I could help more but I am just restarting trying to learn all this through Rivertons online Zoom one day a week for five week weeks. Good Luck! Cecilia
