How do I merge a record of a person who used a different name than his birth name, but is the same person. There are two records for this individual, but I want to merge them?

Do you have the information to share with us as it would be easier to help if we can see exactly what you mean?

I have a similar problem in my own family tree, although the person is still living. I entered him with his birth name and added a note in ‘Other Information’ about the name change. You can also add it to life sketch. This is important as will then let anyone searching for the same person know why you have merged two seemingly different people. Also add a reason when asked during merging as this will clarify why you have merged the two names. Also add any sources about the name change to the person source file.

I have included three articles for you to read about merging people and would suggest you merge the new name into the original name. The first article merging by ID should be helpful as this will bring up the second name of the person you want to merge. if the other name shows up as a potential duplicate you could merge it from the home page link

I hope this will solve the issue.
