one common error across many systems is when you inadvertantly include a blank space before or after the email. (thus when you look at it - it looks perfectly valid because you are not seeing the extra space)
but this could just be some system hiccup or bug.
let us know if it gets resolved.

I did not, but that's good thinking.

other common errors include leaving out the "@" symbol
or inadvertantly typing a comma instead of a period.

No, I spelled it like a proper email address. No spaces anywhere.
That email address I used - used for filtering; where I keep all my genealogy stuff - spelled exactly in that way, is a real email account. It's a new domain just registered in the past week, that might or might not have something to do with it.
I used another instead. I'm not real thrilled about it but it is what it is. At least it will work.

there is a very slight chance that the email verification code in FS is not set up to allow the ".ca" extension that you have in your email.
all the system is telling you is based on what is sees as the spelling - according to the rules that the developers applied - it appears as if the spelling is not valid (but the validation rules being used - "might be "faulty" (and for example only accepting ".com" ".edu. ".org" etc. ) so its possible there may be a flaw in the email validation rules that needs correcting.
(I dont think this spelling validation has anything whatsoever to do with whether or not you registered the email and even whether the email address even actually exists and has the capacity to receive email)
I will pass this on to others (who are real FS employees) who can confirm what the email validation considers as valid/invalid.
Note that many of us answering your questions and others are not FamilySearch employees - most of us are just humbles users like you - sharing our experiences and trying to help a fellow user.

I appreciate these theories but my previous email was also a .ca so that shoots that one down, sorry. If that were the case, that address wouldn't have been accepted either.
Already in touch with an FS employee who is passing this up a little higher on the food chain but thanks for the thought.
Yes, I'm aware of that too. I know what forums are. Not new to the Internet. But thanks. :)
