Specific German Church Books under "Catalog"
Hi There,
There are some church books that I'm interested in to access that are not under "Catalog" - just wondering if they might be available elsewhere. The areas are Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig; Ohrdruf; Arlesburg and Hohenkirchen. The state is Thuringen (or Thuringia).
Kind Regards,
Angy Henn.

The Catalog includes practically every record that FamilySearch has.
If you're trying to get Protestant records, try archion.de
If you're after Catholic records, try matricula-online.eu
The Mayers Gazette, available at https://www.meyersgaz.org/ is helpful for finding the nearest church to a given village.

Thanks A van Helsdingen for your prompt reply but unfortunately it still doesn't solve my problem to access church records. I know where the nearest churches are for the townships and I'm looking at Protestant records. In Thuringia, church books are being microfilmed in two central locations, one at Eisenach and the other at Magdeburg. There's a definitive line in Thuringen where church books from certain locations (cities, towns and villages) go to Eisenach and the others go to Magdeburg. Once microfilmed they are uploaded to Archion (access to it is via a minimal subscription). The office at Eisenach is moving at a good pace uploading onto Archion regularly, in fact every few weeks I get notified which records have been uploaded. Movement from Magdeburg is very, very slow, in fact, I can't even remember when the last time microfilmed records from Magdeburg were uploaded onto Archion. And unfortunately, the records I'm interested are in Magdeburg. I've messaged them a few times for a schedule but I haven't received a reply.
The reason I asked the question here is that occasionally when I look for information on FamilySearch and go into a church book record a message pops up that it can only be accessed at a central LDS church.
Cheers,
Angy

Yes, some records are restricted. Some may be viewable only at Family History Centers (there are about 4,000 worldwide, most of which are in buildings used for LDS worship). Some may be viewable at Family History Centers plus Affiliate Libraries (many public libraries archives worldwide are affiliate libraries). Some records are only visible if you are a member of the LDS church. If the digitized film hasn't been published, then the only way to see it is on microfilm in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Also bear in mind that the contents of the Catalog are currently frozen - and have been for well over a year now - in preparation for a completely revised version.
Anything that is completely missing (as opposed to listed, but having restricted viewing options) might include material FamilySearch has added to its online records but, due to there being no recent updates of the Catalog's contents, there is no indication of any newly added material.
