Why does search criteria NOT limit results?

I am searching the collection: Birth, marriage, & death, Pennsylvania Births & Christenings 1709-1950.

I used search criteria for births = 1824-1939 with father = Thomas, and Mother = Elizabeth and last name = Haines.

I get 1457 results that includes fathers of all names, mothers of all names and births outside the desired range.

What have I done wrong?

To narrow your results, click on the grey Birth filter bubble, select United States of America and then Pennsylvania. If you are searching in a specific county, you can filter to that level.

@Lorraine Faris I repeated what I understand to be your search terms and I got 1 results, within the date range you gave and with Thomas and Elizabeth Haynes as the parents. Here are the steps I took. Maybe you will see something I did differently than you did.

1. Sign in to FamilySearch.
2. Click Search and then Records
3. In the Fiond a Collection search box, enter "Pennsylvania" and then click Pennsylvania Births and Christenings, 1709-1950.
4. Below the search fields, click More Options.
5. Under Add Life Event, click Birth.
6. For the birth year range, enter 1824 and 1939.
7. Under Add Family Member, click Father and enter First name: Thomas, Last name: Haines.
8. Click Mother and enter first name: Elizabeth, last name: Haines.
9. Click Search.
10. One result for Ernest Albert Haynes born 1895 to Thomas and Elizabeth Haynes.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I did as you instructed and received zero results.

I redid it and receive a result for someone other than my ancestor, a Ernest Albert Haynes born in 1895.

I am aware of the record you found, it is for my ancestor. My interest was to see if I could find any other records for his siblings.

I don't understand why I either get too many results or none. The inconsistency is very frustrating.

Thomas Jerdone Haynes, born Richmond, Virginia, and Elizabeth Palmer, born Bristol, England, had issue -

Edgar P Haynes, died 28 Sep 1940, age 42 and 11 months (Pennsylvania death certificate)

Thomas Clifford Haynes, born 17 April 1889 (Philadelphia Roman Catholic baptism in 1917)

Ernest Albert Haynes, born 3 July 1895 (Philadelphia Roman Catholic baptism in 1915)

There are other several other records that look very likely and are worth further investigation. Some show only the mother's given name, without a surname. And some show the mother's name as Bessie - a known nickname for Elizabeth. For example - Dorothy Louise, b 3 July 1895, lists the mother only as Bessie, but the father is "T. Je. Haynes" - a good close match to Thomas Jerdone, found in the baptismal register. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:HFZ8-87PZ There are also a couple of unnamed children.

I realize this doesn't answer your query about sometimes seeing different results, but I hope the information will be useful. Sometimes you have to tweak your search and search different databases with the same info.
