Problems With "Compare" Not Functioning Properly When Adding Records
This has happened on two browsers, Firefox and Brave. I am adding a record to a family. I can attach two of three people easily. For the third, the "Compare" button for the person is there, but as soon as I click it, it turns to an "Add" instead and the list of possibles pops up. The correct person is not on that list but is on my screen. I've also cleared the cache on both browsers and it makes no difference.
In addition to that, I was adding a new person to a family from a record, and every time I clicked the Add, it cycled back to the data comparison screen. It found a match in the tree already but I can't add that match, because it just cycles back to the start.

We suggest that you review this help article.
Note that Brave is not an accepted Browser and you need to probably update your browser and we suggest that you use either chrome or edge.
Hopefully this will answer your question.

My browers are all current. I have been working with FamilySearch for a long time but have only had these problems in the last few days. I use Firefox primarily and have never had issues with it until now.
The problem repeats itself on Chrome, so that made no difference. Also, the problem first appeared in Firefox, which is on the list of accepted browsers you posted.

I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Just in passing ...
Just for clarification ...
Abd, just to be clear ...
Question: WHAT, is it, in fact, that are you doing?
▬ Adding a "Source"; &, needing to add that "Source" to OTHER Family members ALREADY there in the Family
.... ie. through the "SourceLinker"?
OR ...
▬ Adding a GEDCOM File, into the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch', using that "Compare" function?
Now ...
That Said ...
IF, it is Adding a "Source"; and, needing to add that "Source" to OTHER Family members ALREADY there, in the Family, in the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch', through the "SourceLinker"; THEN, I have noticed for some time, that the compare and access, a Family member, DOES NOT always immediately function; and, often, I have to 'fiddle around', until the ability/function to do so, appears - it is, as if, the "System", is STILL working on one's LAST action; and, needs a moment or two to "Synchronise"; often, it is just a matter of being patient, allowing time, for the "System" to catch-up.
Just my thoughts.
Brett
ps: And, that is using the "Browsers" of, 'Google' "Chrome"; 'Mozilla' "FireFox"; and, 'Microsoft' "Edge", ALL with the "Operating System" of "Windows 10"; and, ALL, with the LATEST "Versions" of each.

It's not a matter of the system "catching up" as you say, because this is consistent over a matter of days. And again, yes, all of my browsers are completely updated. I have been working with computers for a very long time and I understand the importance of updates and latest versions. I also do not appreciate the condescending tone of your "reply."
Regardless, I have learned my lesson and won't be asking for help on these forums any further. I'll just ignore the errors I'm getting and help someone else.
