Another Problem Report
Once again, I went into a person's page, my daughter's, and all of her wedding pictures were missing. I went to my picture folder, renamed all of her pictures from IMG0001, etc, to her wedding date and name and tried to upload some photos. About half of the photos showed up with the "duplicate" error.
How does your algorithm know it's a duplicate? Obviously, it is not by file name, and I doubt you are just going by file size. So are you using checksums? Even if you are using a checksum, you should display the two matching pictures for user verification.

the duplicate checking is done by a file checksum as you inferred.
One of the best ways to find duplicates is usually to go to your gallery and search by file name. (which in most cases would be the same) but as you point out - changing the file name doesnt get around the duplicity check.
if you are adamant about uploading a duplicate image for whatever reason - you would have to use some sort of image editing software and make (at least some very minor - even unnoticeable change) so that the checksum is now different.
Yeh I, and many others, have voiced our desire that the duplicate check would bring up the duplicate that it finds. but based on how long Ive been waiting I dont expect to see it any time soon - if ever.

but I wonder about your initital comment:
"Once again, I went into a person's page, my daughter's, and all of her wedding pictures were missing. "
can you give a little more background?
its not normal that pictures just disappear from a profile. so would be good to know the background and context of what you were doing.

but if the system detected duplicates - then you should be able to see the duplicates in your GALLERY.
