How can I get notified of any NEW discussion or announcement in a group I am a member of?

We see that it is easy to get notifications when a reply is posted to a discussion or announcement that I have previously posted to or bookmarked, but is there a way to be notified of ANY new post, or newly answered discussion for a group of which I am a member?

Thanks!

@Royal P Taylor III - As Brett said, unfortunately, this is not something that we can do. It is a limitation of the platform we use and is not something we can currently do anything about. We have passed the request along to the platform provider, though. We'll see if enough of their clients want this feature for them to put it on their roadmap.

    FYI

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    Just in passing ...

Regarding, the 'Groups', from the "Groups" Section", of this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum ...

    You are not alone ...

As far as I am aware ...

Short Answer: Unfortunately, currently, NOT ...

Hopefully, that is be considered; and, worked upon.

I know, that this certainly does not help/assist; but, I just want to let you know.

Thanks Brett! It's good to know my wife and I are not alone in wanting this feature.

I agree that this would be useful. At present I have a list of groups in a spreadsheet and mark the date and time when I last visited.

You may wish to repost this to the Suggest an Idea category. As a moderator I can normally transfer posts between categories but, for some reason, I cannot move it to Suggest an Idea.

Thanks Piper, Graham and Brett! Hopefully they will be able to add the functionality. I did notice that in the home page of the "General Questions" forum, there is a little bell icon, which looks to be the very feature we are looking for! Is it possible that this feature just needs to be turned on for other groups? Or maybe it is only available as this isn't really a "group"? (see below)

@Royal P Taylor III - The bell is available for categories. General Questions, Search, and Indexing are examples of categories. Groups are different.

Thanks @PiperTWilson! That's kind of what I thought, but didn't have the right terminology :)

Great Question. If you go to the bell next to your profile login and click on it you can click the notifications you want to be notified of.

As far as getting notifications to discussions in your group, it’s a work in progress as the FamilySearch Community is continuing to improve. It’s something everyone is wanting, but until that feature is added, you will still need to go back and check on the groups you are in. It may not be the easiest way, but as FamilySearch Community continues to evolve, you can expect new features to be added.

We are so glad you are a part of the Community and we hope that we have been able to assist you in your research and that you have been able to assist others. That’s what the Community is all about. 😊
