The "Pennsylvania, Historical Society of Pennsylvania, Deaths and Burials, 1856-1971" access?

I am attempting to access, "The Pennsylvania, Historical Society of Pennsylvania, Death and Burials, 1856-1971" records; however, when I click on the link, it just returns me to a page that has the heading "HOW TO USE THIS COLLECTION"- which sends me back to the main reference page.

Are these records accessible on family search?

If so, how can they be accessed?

The landing page indicates "Index courtesy of FindMyPast." It also indicates an update as of 2 days ago (30 Jan 2022).

With what we've been seeing with some other links to indexes from FindMyPast (see threads on the 1871 census), there may well be a glitch or a change in access.

The recordset is searchable on FMP: https://search.findmypast.com/search-world-records/historical-society-of-pennsylvania-deaths-and-burials

Excuse me, Aine Ni Donnghaile, but isn't there a user cost to FindMyPast?

For folks who can't or don't want to subscribe, can you give an estimate as to how long users are going to be in internet limbo? My experience with the changes to the Family Search site has only been negative and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.

    Thank you

FindMyPast is not free, but it is available at many public libraries and through Family History Centers.

I'm a user of FamilySearch. I have zero insight into what may change or when it may change.

@DavidTrentCarlson Can you please provide the steps you are taking to try to access the PA Historical Society record collection? Searching the record collection list with a public account, I'm not finding "The Pennsylvania, Historical Society of Pennsylvania, Death and Burials, 1856-1971". We'd be happy to try to figure out why you see what you see, but need to understand how you're getting to the record collection in the first place. Thanks.

    Thank you, @Áine Ní Donnghaile

@DavidTrentCarlson It is unfortunately the case that you can find links to record collections in the catalog that are not accessible because of contracts with the record owners. They may have been accessible at some point and the contract changed, or there might be the hope that they will become accessible in the future. We have no way to know for sure. Many of the records that were shared with FamilySearch by findmypast.com are no longer accessible and we note that the collection description indicates that the index is from findmypast.com.

Bottom line, if you see a record collection in the catalog with the red message saying you can click and see digital images and/or indexed information--but you click and don't even see search fields or can search, but can't see images, you can know that this record collection is not accessible. We are hopeful that the promised re-do to the catalog will remove these kinds of misleading messages.

@DavidTrentCarlson while trying to help someone else, I saw another possible access point for the Historical Society of Pennsylvania records. I have not done an in-depth search, so I can't say if all the records are available here. https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/2729925. You will want to scroll down the page to the individual DGS listings, and check the ones that are denoted as cemetery, gravestone, tombstone, etc. Hope this helps!
