Unable to identify record
Greetings Family Search Community. I use Family Search often but I have run into a block locating a marriage record for James Shirley ID LHPP-3B5 and his 1st wife (mother of 4 children, one I am related to) Judith Garriott/Garritt ID 9HJT-NCH.
Her FS record is scanty though this 1st marriage is noted 1772. Their 4 children are in these records.
I have gone into your Historical Images but it is overwhelming. I looked up the county James Shirley went to the Rev War from - Faquier Co trying to find church or marriage records. This was British Colonial America, I believe, in 1772. I did not find any kind.
James Shirley remarried in 1781, 2 years after the birth of his 4th child. FS record I provided the ID for gives this as Judith Garriott. I have no source proving she was his 1st wife.
There were no census in 1772, were there? I have used those many times finding 3 generations in the home.
Could you or someone help me with identifying james Shirley's 1st wife? His 10 children with his 2nd wife Mary McMekin are all over. Judith Garriott, alleged 1st wife, died leaving no trail I have found so far.

Did James Shirley apply for/qualify for a Revolutionary War pension? I've found details of wives and even a list of birth dates of all children in the pension packet.
Since there is no source attached for that first marriage, that date may simply be an estimated year of marriage based on the year of birth of first child.
