Attaching Memories Unable to Tag Because of Broken Links

Been trying to tag documents and images to a family member. It's been indicating a broken paperclip, like something is a miss. Have been successful getting to tag the documents but not the images. Have no idea why the link may be broken. The individual is showing on the tree and his profile looks fine too. Would like to resolve this issue. Ideas are most welcome! Thank you!

Here are the policies for upload

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/what-rules-apply-to-uploading-memories-to-familysearch-org

Note however that the process to initially check if an item has met policy is a totally automated systematic and imperfect non human process - as such it is not abnormal to have items flagged that are not really in violation of policy. when you do submit an item that has been flagged - you will get an email notifying you of it. (dont get offended if you do and you feel the item is totally innocent)

If you feel the item may have been flagged ("restricted") in error - simply reply to the email with the something like "I think this was restricted in error, Please Review"

(dont think you have to waste your time trying to tell some long story - those few words are all you need in most cases)

and in most cases it will be un restricted.

also as to items that may be copyrighted (and thus violate rules of upload)

this is a link that may be helpful

    https://yanceyfamilygenealogy.org/copyright.htm

(many people assume certain things are copyrighted - when so many genealogical items are NOT)

    @Emily Krafjack

We checked out your recently uploaded documents and note they come from Newspapers.com and Ancestry. The user needs a paid subscription.

Noncommercial. Content should not advertise or promote products. They should not infringe on intellectual property rights.

In other words you need permission to add the images to FamilySearch.

Does this answer your question? If not give is more information so we can investigate.

Yes, one item was from newspapers.com labeled as KMCA-25. For clarity, I can use the transcription in the sources but not the image in the memories section? I have a paid subscription to newspapers.com

The other two items I was having difficulty with are labeled KMCW-24 and 25. These are not ancestry documents. These original documents are in the personal possession of my husband.

    Item KMCW-20 is from myheritage.

I wasn't aware of this issue. Please clarify whether a transcription and link are permitted as a source. If they're not to be used in the memories section no worries.

P.S. in case I didn't explain myself properly the broken paperclip icon appeared on the person I had hoped to attach the memory. Just mentioning so that we're talking about the same apples and not apples and oranges :)

Do you have a resource I can reference for such instances? Thanks.

yeh I almost get the impression there are two independent and unconnected issues being discussed in this thread

even with an attachment that is against policy it should still attach as normal just that it may show a "restricted" message at some point. (and eventually get deleted)

and just because an item is from Ancestry.com or Newsppaers, com - does NOT in and of itself mean that it cant be uploaded. Nor does it mean that it will automatically cause it to be flagged as "restricted". It depends on whether copyright applies and just because it came from those two sites does NOT always mean copyright applies. and the algorithms used to detect items against policy really have no fool proof way to get flagged correctly and many things make it through no matter what and others some times get flagged when they shouldn't. It is really "russian roulette" as to whether or not an image with watermarks or copyrights makes it through or not.

    As far as Newsapers.com

I believe that FS Memories admins have told me that leadership at Newspapers.com has said

that uploads of items from its site can be uploaded in FS without having to ask permission again and again for every single item.

There are times when I have seen that the screen doesn't get "refreshed" as soon as it normally does. (after a tag is completed)

that may have been the case in what you were seeing.

whenever you see issues like this - best to wait a few seconds. Go out to a different screen and then come back and see if simply refreshing corrects the issue.

    Hi Emily

Glad it is all in order now. Must have been a slow process this time.

Thank you for the explanation. I wasn't aware there was a policy. If possible, I'd greatly appreciate a link to this policy so I that I avoid violating it. Ty!
