When a change to a record has been made by "FamilySearch" who is that and how is it made?
For example an ancestor appears as a brother to a grandparent. The brother's name and other vitals have been entered by "FamilySearch". Where does that come from? Why are no sources cited?

"FamilySearch" (as a submitter) is a generic system name - usually referenced on a record that has been batch converted into the current system. (either batch converted from a prior version of FamilySearch - and / or batch converted from records that have been gathered for nearly a century prior to the existence of FamilySearch on line.
The system account is not one that represents any specific person and you should not think you will be able to make contact with the submitter, In most cases there are no sources simply because there were no meaningful sources from the source that was being converted.
This is also related to the fact of why there are so many duplicates in FamilySearch Family Tree.
here is a great video on duplicates

. . . or maybe it had a source which was nothing more than a GEDCOM load or LDS Temple submission load - which were not meaningful true sources.
In the history of family Search true primary sources were not always cited and even in cases where there were sources cited - - with the paper to computer conversion process -- sources were not always brought in (decades ago)

the data that was used to "seed" the initial FamilySearch Database -- can go back almost a century. . . far earlier than computers. Many of these records were brought in (to computerized databases) without true sources and just the skeleton family data. And there are numerous different scenarios so its hard to give a blanket statement.

In short . . . if you see errors or omissions or needed updates or merges to records in the system submitted by "FamilySearch" (PLEASE feel free to make such corrections or merges without hesitation ) as long as you feel relatively satisfied of the validity of your correction. BUT - as you can please cite your sources and or reasons for making the changes.

Good answer. Thank you. So just to clarify, a family tree whose only contributor is "Family Search" with 0 sources could have existed in the original form also with 0 sources?

Thank you both.

Thank you for the responses which are interesting but I still do not know how to correct an error. Somehow my paternal grandfather has been listed as the father of my husband. An obvious error - now what?
