Indexing page 1 of 2 page baptism record
I am reviewing this batch of baptism records. The batch has only one image, which is the first page of a two page baptism record. That page only includes child's given name and dates of birth and baptism.
The indexer apparently brought up page +1of the reference images in order to index the parents' names. It has always been my understanding that the reference pages are just for reference and should not be indexed as part of the batch.
On the other hand, it seems rather useless to index just the child's given name without any other identifying data. Also, if page 2 is indexed as a separate batch, of what use is it to index only the parents' names without connecting them to a child and dates?
How should this be indexed?

This situation is where the General Indexing Guidelines (GIG) come into play. Note the first sentence of the warning that pops up when you open a batch for this project. "Before indexing these images, please read through all of the project instructions, field helps, and general indexing guidelines." The GIG is the last section of the Project Instructions. When a record continues to the next image and that image is a +1 reference image, you do use the information in that +1 image to complete that record.
Here is the subsection heading of the GIG to check for details: What to Do When Records Span 2 Images or to View Additional Images. It tells you to bring up the image containing the continuation of a record beginning in your current image while you complete the entry for that record. Your records continue outside the bounds of your batch and finish on the +1 reference image. So that's the image you "reference" to complete the entries for those records.

Yup, there it is in the GIG! I should have seen that.
Thank you, John, for pointing that out and for reminding me to always check the instructions.

You're welcome, Janet. The GIG is a treasure trove.
