Marriage date
It would be really nice if, when there are more than one marriage date entered, we could put the most correct one at the top without having to delete one or more. Today, I attached the marriage banns to a couple and it automatically became the visible date. It would be nice to keep the banns date on the list of dates, but choose which date should be visible from the person page. Because the actual marriage date had been added first, the new banns date became the visible date. Please find a way to edit it without deleting. Thanks.

I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Just in passing ...
Great suggested enhancement ...
But ...
That Said ...
You are not alone ...
This, suggested enhancement, is certainly not "New" ...
Just in case, you have not been using, the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch', for too long ...
Please, be aware; and, advised ...
That is what, MANY; Many, many, of us, have been asking/requesting (in fact, "Begging"), for MANY Years.
Unfortunately ...
To-Date, such has not eventuated ...
The REAL Problem/Issue, that exists, is that, the "Event", that appears, in the "Family Member" Section, for a "Couple", in the "Couple" Relationship, is (and, has) ALWAYS (been) the FIRST / EARLIEST 'Dated' event.
So, that means, if recorded, that the likes of, "Marriage Banns"; and, "Marriage Licenses"; being, the FIRST / EARLIEST 'Dated' event, WILL actually appear, INSTEAD, of the ATUAL "Marriage".
Hence, WHY so many of us, list, the "Events", the likes of, "Marriage Banns"; and, "Marriage Licenses", in the "Other Information" Section; so that, they DO NOT impinge, upon the likes of, the "Event", of "Marriage".
This has been an 'Ongoing' problem/issue ...
We have been advised, by 'FamilySearch', that in the "Family Members" Section, for "Couples", that the WHOLE "Couple" Relationship AREA is (ie. WILL be) getting a "Complete" MAKE-OVER; whereby, there have been SOME "Minor" enhancements; but, all-in-all, we are STILL waiting - a very LONG ongoing process.
Again ...
Great suggested enhancement ...
We can but live in hope.
Just my thoughts.
I know, that this certainly does not help/assist; but, I hope, that this may provide you with, some additional, insight; and, perspective.

The reason the banns show instead of the marriage is that the banns come first, and the couple box only shows the earliest relationship event that has been entered.
It would definitely be nice if one could choose which event to display, or failing that, for the display to default to the latest entered event -- i.e. wedding rather than banns, and divorce rather than wedding.

Brett has described the situation very well. I suppose FamilySearch management has to decide its priorities, whilst having limited resources available, but it is much to be regretted that the Couple Relationship area has remained largely neglected of enhancements over the years.
There are two other problems that connect with your particular issue, however. Firstly, that banns and licence records have often been (and I believe still are!) indexed as if they were actual marriage events. Secondly, that every time a marriage-related source is added to a couple, there is the option to carry that detail across during the (source linking) process. So, for either or both reasons, a number of different "marriage events" find their way into the Relationship Events section (of the Couple Relationship area), from which (as you know) the one with the earliest date finds its way onto the Person page(s).
I suppose even if there was the opportunity to select the event to be on "open display" from those listed, there would still be users who would disagree on what should rightly be shown (e.g. earlier or later event, if the same couple married twice - either by civil or religious ceremony, or if they divorced in between), but at least we wouldn't have to delete all the other items listed (as at present) until our "preferred" or "correct" event got to the top of the list!
One can only live in hope that Family Tree developers do read the suggestions posted here and have this one on their list of urgently required enhancements.

I too have this issue. In case it has not been said before - the ability to flag one event as PRIMARY is all that is required. The system (correctly) wants us to attach all the records that show up for an event, therefore the ability to choose which one is more correct is a necessity. Thanks

This problem does not require a program engineering solution. It is a routine problem of data curation that is easily corrected by you:
Simply edit the marriage field on the couple and delete the preliminary dates. The result will be that all historical records remain attached to the profiles and the marriage will be displayed with the correct date.

The problem does not lie in the fact that the records remain attached to the ID, but that they cannot remain in the Couple Relationship section. A solution is required and that should involve user selection of the preferred event, instead of there being no choice than to delete anything in the Couple Relationship section having a date earlier than the one preferred.
You might argue that marriage-related events (banns, licence data, etc.) should be deleted regardless, but there should definitely be a place for alternative events - e.g. civil and religious ceremonies, as well as details of marriages (between the same couple, of course) before and after a divorce.
However, at least part of the problem lies in FamilySearch indexing related events (banns, licence) as if they represented the actual marriage. I also believe that the program should not allow marriage detail to be carried across during the source linking process. Due to current flaws in the programming, the data should be noted by the user and evaluated (against existing entries, etc.) once back on the profile pages.
