South Africa Death Notices

South Africa, Western Cape—Deceased Estate Files, 1974–2011 [Part I][M3K8-VY2]

The notices do not have an item to note place of death. There is an item that says to write the place of residence for the last 12 months prior to death. Do I put a blank for place of death, or write the place of residence for final 12 months as the place of death?

Hi, some of the notices have a place of death entry and some don't. As the person did not necessarily die at home we mark the field (Blank) following the field guide which states:

If the locality was not recorded or was written as a variation of the word "unknown," press Ctrl+B to mark this field blank.

    Hope this helps

Be careful with your dates. In Africa most of the time the day is listed first.

    Hi,

I'm having trouble figuring out this death place. It looks as though it's written "Paeul", though I can't find anywhere in South Africa (in english or afrikaans) that has a similar name. I was thinking that maybe it is an abbreviation or colloquial name of some sort? Let me know what suggestions you have, thanks.
