RE town on UK, England, Lancashire—Nonconformist Church Records, 1647–1996
Title of series already says county of Lancashire but location field says county not 'town' and there is no field for the towns shown - Lancashire is a huge county and county only would make searching with accuracy pretty impossible especially with common surnames - what do I do or how to I get a town field added?

I've only done a few of these, but, I think that they are only concerned because there seems to be records where other counties were recorded on the same sheets.
There are two ways to make a suggestion that town fields be added: 1) a post in this forum, 2) contacting FamilySearch at one of the Contact Us numbers or through the live chat links. They can be found by clicking on the question mark in the right corner, and then Contact Us at the bottom of the Help box.
Good luck.

Hi Karen https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Main_Page Use this part of family search to find places in Lancashire. Also https://www.familysearch.org/search/ looking at historical records. Hope this helps.

The problem with the project, @PMLynch is that there is no field for Towns. We don't index the name of towns, only the name of the counties. Ms Hayward would like to have a town field added to the entry form.

Correct @Melissa S Himes - @PMLynch because of the industrial revolution the city of Manchester grew from 25000 people in 1773 to 95000 in 1802, Salford Grew from 29000 in 1801 to 89000 in 1841 and Liverpool Grew from 5700 in 1770 to a massive 165000 in 1831 these 3 cities are all in Lancashire so from a search point of view just to show Counties is as they say as much use as a chocolate kettle - If you are looking for a popular surname such as Smith or Taylor your job is made much much harder if you can only search by County.
Surely it wouldn't be too difficult to add towns

One thing to remember is why a document is being indexed. It is being indexed because the owner wants it indexed and they want it indexed to their specifications. Those are not always for the sake of family researchers. They may have a completely different goal in mind.

Oh, I thought the whole point of the familySearch site was so people could use it to trace their family tree - I might stop transcribing then because the reason I started was to help with family trees.

You misunderstood me, Karen. Yes we do index for family research.
