Record GCXS-82J Verna Lovell

Someone has added this person to my tree as a sibling to William Kelvin LOVELL when Verna is actually his wife.

How do I remove her.

    @Ken Bunker Family

I am assuming that William Kelvin Lovell is still living is that correct?

First of all if Verna is William's wife she needs to be put in with her maiden name and not her married name. All female need to be put into FamilySearch with their maiden name. So you will need to edit Verna's name in the vital section and put in her maiden name.

Then you will need to change the relationship of Verna and William

Here are three help articles that will assist you.

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-to-enter-names-in-family-tree

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-correct-parent-child-relationships-in-family-tree

Once you have removed Verna as William's Sibling you can use Verna's ID and add her as William's spouse. Pay attention to step 6 on the Add a Spouse in Family Tree help article.

You can click on the Help Icon (the small circle with a question mark). Then click on Help Center in the bottom left of that pop up window. Enter a few key search terms to find and select knowledge articles that are appropriate to your question.

You can also click on Community from the Help pop up window and then select a category applicable to your question. Then you can ask a question and receive answers to your question. The Community is like a chat group.

    Hopefully this will help.

I looked up William Kelvin Lovell information and it shows Verna Lucy Adams as his spouse and so that is correct. You will need to merge the duplicate of GCXS-82J Verna Lovell with Verna Lucy Adams GDKB-GR3.

Here is the article about merging duplicates:

Best wishes in this little clean up.

    Hopefully that will help.

Thanks for your help. I merged the 2 records. GCXS-82J with GDKB-GR3 (this is the correct record). However the wrong record (GCXS-82J) appears to remain in the database.

    Why does this record remain?

What is to prevent the person that incorrectly added Verna Lovell to my family from doing it again?

    Regards

Once a merge is completed the old one (in this case GCXS-82J for Verna LOVELL) remains in the database incase the merge needs to be unmerged for some reason. You will notice that the ID GCXS-82J for Verna LOVELL shows person deleted. If you want to go to GDKB-GR3 Verna Lucy Adams person page and click on the Follow star in the upper right of her page. You will be notified any time there are changes to her page.
