FYI
Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
I am just another User/Patron ...
Just in passing ...
Just in case, you were not aware ...
"Couple" Relationships, for individuals/persons, of the SAME "Gender", can NOW be recorded ( ie. appear), in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch'.
Hence, WHY, the "Gender", of "Couples" (ie. and, "Parents") MUST be specified/displayed.
Here are some articles on the matter.
.
Here is an "Official" Statement by the Church:
FamilySearch Now Provides Ability to Document **** Family Relationships
Church teachings on eternal marriage remain unchanged
https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/familysearch-document-****-family-relationships
.
Here is a "Media" article from 'FamilySearch':
FamilySearch Adds Ability to Document All Family Relationships
https://media.familysearch.org/familysearch-adds-ability-to-document-all-family-relationships/
.
Here is a "Knowledge Article", in 'FamilySearch':
**** relationships in FamilySearch: FAQ
https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/****-relationships-in-familysearch-faq
.
I know, that this may not help/assist; but, I hope that this may provide, some additional, insight; and, perspective.

ps: And, there are a number of OTHER articles on cross related matters.

You must remember that the sex was probably assigned when the individual was created in FamilySearch - either during an indexing exercise or in being added to Family Tree by a user. I have rarely had to add the sex to an individual in creating a couple relationship, as it has usually been added beforehand.

I will add, before this thread turns into a religious/political debate about family issues, that recording same-gender marriages is not an endorsement of it. Many genealogists disapprove of illegitimacies, forced or underage marriages and divorce, yet very few ever complain when genealogical software allows such events to be recorded.
