More Indexing Batch Statistics

Some indexing projects show how many batches are left to review, but I would love to see how many total batches are in a project and how many are left. I spend most of my indexing time with non-English projects which take much longer amounts of time and sometimes I feel like I'm not doing much of a difference at all, but seeing the number go down would help a lot, for me and I'm sure for others as well - even if the numbers are huge, I could at least see it budge. It would also help to see which projects need the most actual help, as project batches don't seem to be equally distributed.

    Hi @AdrianaHazelton

If you want to see which projects need the most attention (are the least complete) for any given language, you can choose the language and then choose to sort by "Least Complete" as in the screenshot below in Find a Project (formerly Find a Batch). This example doesn't address your wish to see the actual numbers of batches remaining to be indexed or reviewed. Occasionally projects that need extra reviewing help will show the number of batches that need reviewing. However, typically that information isn't shown.

I support (I upvoted it) your idea of showing the various absolute numbers for projects in addition to the percentages. Why not? And, as you say, it might be motivating to see the actual numbers

If you are working on a batch from a project that happens to show the number of batches that need review, then you can (maybe) make some of the estimates you asked about.

CAVEATS: I want to emphasize that they are rough estimates, perhaps because of rounding or truncating in the percentages, or other more serious issues I mention in the following. Another potential pitfall is that I’m assuming the absolute and percentage numbers both refer to batches. i hope that the percentages are not referring to images (the building blocks of batches) while clearly the absolute numbers refer to batches. I need “apples and apples” for this to make sense (if batches are not the same size).

Maybe a Moderator can check on this. If the percentages refer to images, while the absolute numbers are expressed in batches - I may have a problem . Please let me know if that is the case and I’ll pull this comment, or at least the example portion.

I still support the idea of showing indexing and Review progress in absolute numbers plus percentages - using the same units please. See the next example: I hope it’s not a waste or worse, confusing.

Maybe wait for a Moderator to answer my concern before spending time on trying to follow my example.

Thanks for the additional thoughts on this idea! I would hope that batch numbers are represented and not images - it must be, I feel like the numbers (when showing remaining batches to review) don't go down nearly fast enough compared to how many images are in a batch. I focus primarily on the Brazil-based projects where the numbers barely budge and I can feel almost like I'm the only one working on them. The percentages for the project I work on only went up one percent on both indexing and reviewing portions from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day. Overall, though, this feels like a small and straightforward addition to the coding on the indexing page that can make some impact on user experience.

I hope you're right about the units being batches, Adriana, so that the above makes sense. And I hope you get the changes you asked for.
