I know that you can look in country and state for orphan court records. Even if the children were older and out of the house. you can find information in there if their father has died leaving land or personal things.
I know that until the child came of age a guardian was appointed to manage the estate and funds of the father for the child. In early yrs the mother was not given guardianship of the children but other people were.
My question is if there was no land or property does the court still appoint a guardian for minor children.
Do the children just become indentured servants and fend for themselves?
