Why is my question on the internet search for my family?
A while back I asked a question on Family Search Community. While I was further searching on the internet, I found my question to Family Search regarding that person. I thought when I was on Community, it would stay with Family Search & not be out there for anyone to see.
Please let me know about this. Thank you. Happy New Year.

I do not pretend to be an expert on Google and other internet search engines but my understanding is that they index everything in sight subject only to quite limited privacy policies - broadly those based on legal requirements imposed in various countries. If someone is willing to post something on the internet. it is regarded as fair game for the search engines.

Since a person does not actually have to "LOGON" to FamilySearch Community (with user id and password) to be able to see the posts that are out there in the community. The same applies to GOOGLE'S web bots that index the web.
Generally they will index anything that is viewable without a given system user id and password.
in short - the Community and its posts are in the public view - with no user id and password needed to view
(though to POST a submission to the community you do have to be logged in)
So Google with its web bots will pick this information up and index it like any other "open" web content.
This same rule does not apply to ALL Info in FamilySearch - some of which is only viewable behnd a user id and password and beyond Googles vision
BUT as the previous person responded - we live in a day when just about anything can under the right conditions be seen by others. so don't post anything you dont want others to see.
in short - The Community is a PUBLIC OPEN FORUM.

@Dav-1 - I apologize. I thought I had answered you. Would you please send me a private message including the link to the thread?
