What is the proper order to index a page of records with multiple columns and multiple records in each column--like Missouri Marriage records [M9LV-MYL]?

    Hi Mary Louise,

On this page the licenses are in numeric order which makes it easier. Look in the upper-right of each license for its number after the printed word "No. _____________"

Columns are usually indexed left to right, top to bottom. You would start with first license on the upper left 297719 and index the first column, top to bottom, then index the second column (297722), the third, etc., finishing at the bottom right in column 4 with the last license on the page, number 297730.

Thank you! I was reviewing this batch and quickly noticed that the indexer had jumped around in what seemed like a random order while indexing the records. Finally at Entry 7 the indexer found a system that was easier to follow for the last 6 Entries. I drew a diagram to help me find which record they were on for each Entry.
