I am currently researching my Jamaican ancestors and wondered if there are any available records for 1778. My fifth great grandmother named Elizabeth Jones Hooper was baptized in the Parish of St Mary in 1817 and her year of birth is listed as 1778.

I have read that civil registration of births did not commence in Jamaica until 1880, so you will not be able to find a Jamaican birth registration record for 1778. For 1778 you would usually be relying on baptismal records, but in your case, the baptism did not take place until 1817.
Depending on what what actually said on the 1817 baptism, there is alway the possibility that Elizabeth was born somewhere else, not in Jamaica, and came to Jamaica with her family as a child, or even later as an adult.
Thanks for the reply and the useful info!
