Cause of Death Fact

There has to be some cause of death feature for this site. I find myself having to create "custom facts" to provide this information on my ancestor's "details" page. I simply write "Cause of Death: Myocardial Infarction" or something. I believe it would be a good idea to add a cause of death fact that would have a list of common deaths and if that death was not found there would be an option to submit a "custom death." Or simply a detail box of the death event to add that information. I feel this would be an easily added feature and a commonly used one.

    @FinneganWilliams

    FYI

    Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    Just in passing ...

    FIRSTLY ...

    Great suggested enhancement.

    SECONDLY ...

    Until such enhancement is ever implemented ...

    As a 'Workaround' ...

    I simply use, the "Other Information" Section"

    ▬ "Add Information"; and,

    ▬ ▬ "Facts"; and,

    ▬ ▬ ▬ ADD a "Custom Fact".

    eg.

    image.png

    That seems to work quite well.

    Plus ...

    Depending on the 'nature' of the "Cause of Death" ...

    One can ALWAYS add such in the likes of:

    ▬ "Life Sketch" Section; and/or

    ▬ "Collaboration" Section

    ▬ ▬ "Notes" Subsection; and/or,

    ▬▬ "Discussions" Subsection

    In some (Very Specific) cases (Circumstances), I have included the "Cause of Death", in one or all of those.

    Just my thoughts.

    I hope, that this may help/assist, somewhat.

    If you want the cause of death to be clearly visible, why not add it in the Reason Statement box, directly beneath the death detail? Brett details alternative suggestions - personally, I would also use the Notes feature (under Collaboration) for items like this.

    @Paul W - The image issue has reared its ugly head again. Would you be willing to edit your post and re-upload your screenshot?

    @PiperWilson

    I'll revisit in about 30 minutes to see if it goes through this time!

    Update - didn't have to wait: appears to have worked this time - always does for me after a second attempt.

    (I had posted two screenshots against another thread - at around the same time as this - and had no problem with that at first attempt.)

    @Paul W ( & @PiperWilson )

    Paul ( & Piper )

    Just in passing ...

    These days, the "Image" (generally) works when you try again; AS, the "Image" has "Passed" (and, been "Approved") through/by "Image Moderation" - but, just 'Lost' in "Limbo".

    It is always best to "Copy" the "Image", from the post; or, use the "Link" ...

    [ ie. If you DO have the ORIGINAL still on hand ... ]

    Sometimes, I have used a "Editor" (to "Mark"; or, "Redact"), for "Images" (eg. "Screenshots") ...

    Whereas, sometimes I do not - just a straight "Copy" and "Paste" ...

    I now, keep the Screen/Page in a 'Tab' (and/or, an "Editor"), on hold/standby, until the "Image", actually "Passes" (and, is "Approved") through/by "Image Moderation" (ie. and appears), just in case.

    Just my thoughts.

    A Custom Fact for cause of death is gracious plenty, in my opinion, and the idea of a drop-down to choose from is completely and utterly untenable: in every language, there are thousands of names for diseases or symptoms that can show up in death records. (For example, here are roughly 200 examples of causes of death in old Hungarian death/burial registers: https://macse.hu/society/betegsegek.php. They do not fully overlap the approximately 50 old names of diseases listed on Wikipedia: https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betegs%C3%A9gek_r%C3%A9gi_neveinek_list%C3%A1ja -- and inevitably, the thing I'm trying to decipher will not be on either list.)
