has the surname as Stranagman. I can't view the underlying image from home but the surname is likely to be Strangman.

More significantly the location is given as:

Awarua, Avön, Uusimaa, Finland

You are unlikely to find a place called Awarua in Finland (I can't on Google maps)..

As the source is a New Zealand Electoral Roll, and a similarly named person is on the Awarua, Southland NZ, electoral rolls in other years, the location is more likely to be:

  • Awarua Electorate
  • Southland, New Zealand
  • Precinct, 1881 - 1996

I don't see where I can't propose a change on the record page itself, hence me coming here.

    @Terry Stock_1 ,

    I am so sorry for the delay in getting your question and concern addressed. Going to the URL that you provided, right under the name you will see a box with a pencil icon that says "Edit". Click on that and you will be able to edit the indexed name to the correct name of Strangman which is on the document. As far as the place which is listed, you are correct and can edit the place as Awarua, Southland, New Zealand. The Event Date is correct. Thank you so much!

    Tried that.

    "Edit unavailable. Sorry, you need special authorization to edit this record".

    I'm unable to view the record from home either, which peeves me as I am contributing to the New Zealand electoral rolls project.

    Maybe AndLinda can edit it to improve the accuracy of the record.

    @Terry Stock_1

    AndLinda appears to be unaware that only some records are editable. I only had to hover (with my mouse) over the Edit button to be advised this is not one of them.

    Unfortunately, you will not be able to get this record changed until if or when it does become editable. There are regular reports of this nature, for which there is no immediate remedy.

    All you can do for now is to add a note regarding the correct surname spelling - and placename - if you add this as a source to an ID in Family Tree.

    @Terry Stock_1

    There is someone looking into this issue. Hopefully....

    Thank you for your patience.

    @Terry Stock_1 There appears to have been some action on these errors. The record has been changed, but it has careered off in a different direction from your suggestion of "Awarua Electorate". It now has an event place of "Avon Electorate, Canterbury, New Zealand". https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:68FM-BVQY. However, if I search for the record within this collection for the person by name, the search returns just one result, and, in the list, it is still displayed with the following erroneous information! (I'd attach an actual screenshot, but that functionality isn't working.)

    Name

    Events and Relationships

    Sarah Mabel Stranagman
    Sex: Female
    Principal
    New Zealand, Electoral Rolls, 1865-1957

    Voter Registration  1931
    Avön, Uusimaa, Finland

    I have encountered some of these strange "Finnish" entries (in 2021), and one I checked up on today has now also been changed to "Avon Electorate". I think that in this case "Avon Electorate" is probably correct.
