Separating Three Merged Men and Their Families

I am attempting to separate three men that have been merged together: [1] Thomas (c. 1736) and Amy Kyme from Skirbeck Lincolnshire, [2] Thomas (christened 1742) and Ann Kime from Theddlethorpe Lincolnshire, and [3] Thomas (christened 1742) and Osney Kime from Trusthorpe Lincolnshire along with their families who are all muddled together.

RESOLVED

I must say what is really, really, really disturbing is when I go to merge, only names and dates show. Why don't places show when merging??

    @Kughes

    Have you seen this article ? It can be found by clicking Help (?), Help Center, and searching 'record contains multiple people'.

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-fix-a-merge-that-has-information-from-multiple-people-in-family-tree

    If not if may be helpful in separating the three men.

    Wishing you success!

    Could you share a screenshot of a merge where you see only dates, no places? Or the PID of a profile with a pending merge where you see no places?

    I guess I have been merging a lot of people lately where the main person has no info, but the children do and I was expecting to see places after the children, which gives me a little bit of security through the process that I am putting the correct family together. It's been quite disconcerting to see no places.

    My suggestion would be to defer merges until after you do some work on the children's pages, adding and standardizing dates and places.

    @Kughes , Like you, I've found that in most cases the merge screen doesn't present enough information to decide whether two people really need to be merged. Instead, I review the person pages of each potential duplicate carefully. (I also look at the change log to see if there are any bad merges or other issues, and I clean them up first.) I only start the merge after I'm satisfied that the two records really do represent the same person.

    In case it's helpful, I've taught a couple of webinars on duplicates and merging. Here are the links:

    1. Duplicates in Family Tree (Part 1)
    2. Duplicates in Family Tree (Part 2)

    I hope that helps! Please let us know if you have additional questions.
