US, New York, Erie—Index to Land Records, Grantors, 1630–1975 [Part A] [MS1B-N84]

The batch I am reviewing has 14 names. When I get to the end of the names on the page, the reviewing continues, but with names from "My Page" +1, the next image in the series and even then the names are shown out of sequence.

I'm going to hold off on finishing this batch because the review process is expecting me to review 50 additional names when there aren't any other names on the page.

Sadly, the indexer did not know that they didn't need to fill in all the pre-set entry forms, but, did need to delete them to get the batch to submit. So, they filled in what they could find.

As a reviewer, you must either delete the records that should not have been indexed, or send the batch back for indexing. It it were me, I would send the batch back for reindexing using the the Lab feature, Reasons to Reindex Batch, so that FamilySearch might reach out to the indexer and give them some extra help. To get to that form, with the batch open, click on the Help Tab, go to Labs, and follow the instructions on activating the form. You could also return the batch for reindexing and delete the data.

If you just want to delete the excess one by one, you can do that too. A quick way to accomplish this would be to add a blank entry form after entry 14. Then use the copy forward tool and render each field blank for the remaining 50 names. You will be able to use the trash can icon to delete "all blank entries".

I think the deed year on those could be indexed as 1912 since there is a 1912 in the second line, even though it is in the date of instrument column, and then ditto marks throughout. Since 1812 and 2012 are not reasonable as the date of the record, I think 1912 is acceptable.

Thanks Britt. We never know how much to include with these answers or whether the indexer is new or experienced with all the tools. I like to provide shortcuts just in case! Good luck with whatever you choose!

I tried using the Labs operation but I never received the labs instruction sheet for reviewer to enter the reason for sending the batch back.

I deleted all the entries past 14, after zeroing out all the fields and submitted the batch. That clears up that particular situation for me. I really appreciate the instruction. The Labs scenario is a great idea but I could not get the batch return instruction sheet to appear after refreshing the page; tried several times.

Thank you so much for reviewing. The previous indexer was very creative. I think they did not k now how to delete extra entries and so they went to the next image and added those in. In this case mark entries 15 through 64 as blank in all fields and then delete those blank entries. When you submit you should only have 14 entries to submit.

You will want to use the Copy text from selected fields to following matching fields the icon looks like this

    copy.JPG

Then if you type control b for blank in all the fields in entry 15 then in each of those fields that you marked blank Click on th icon above. It will populate blank in the remaining fields of entry 15 through 64. Then you can click on the trash can and delete all blank entries. That will leave you with 14 entries to submit.

    Hopefully that will make sense.

Thank you for helping Index and review. That helps so many find records about their ancestors.

Brett - That Labs page is hard to get it to click sometimes. You have to click on the box on the labs page and then refresh your browser.

What I have found that works well is to click on the Active box. Then click on the Indexing tab at the top of the page. You will then pull up the batch again and when you click Reindex Batch, the form should appear. The form should reappear until you either turn it off or it turns itself off. Then you have to go through the steps again. (I find it turns itself off every week or so).

    Kind of weird.

@CHold - For me, it is just a little bit easier to insert a blank record before the ones you want to delete and then copy forward.

Of course, it is probably just as easy to use Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + B to mark the whole record <blank> on Entry 15 and then copy forward. For some reason that x icon is gone from the toolbar. But, the keyboard shortcut should still work.
