    @dontiknowyou

    FYI

    Social Groups = 'Groups', within the ''Groups" Sections. of this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

    Hence ...

    IF, in such cases; as, you describe, when one tries to access, such a submission/post, from the likes of List of "Recent Discussions"; and, one cannot, instead getting, that "Permission Problem. You don't have permission to do that.", with that "Face' 'Background'; THEN, such submission/post, is one, in one of the "Groups", that is "Private".

    ie. A 'Group', that one, must "Request to "Join"; and, in fact, MUST be "Accepted"/"Approved"; as, a member.

    [ And, that is to even 'see', the submissions/posts, in that particular 'Group' ... ]

    Also, in such cases, for "Groups", that is "Private", you DO NOT even get tp 'see' WHAT the 'Group' is.

    I hope this may help.

    I consider this situation to be a very off-putting feature of FS Community. Obviously FS has the technology available concerning my status for me to get the message "Permission Problem. You don't have permission to do that."

    FS should take this further, and if I would get that message, program things so that this discussion does not appear in the feed I get for "All Discussions". Alternatively, label such groups as Private Groups, so that I know not to click on them, or arrange for Private Group posts to be excluded altogether from "All Discussions"

    I agree, @MaureenE123, it is off-putting! At a minimum the reader could be invited to join the group. Or, alternatively, don't show group discussion topics in all readers' feeds.

    @MaureenE123

    Maureen

    I totally agree ...

    Just in passing ...

    FYI

    Recently, I did raise the matter, of "Changing" that reference (ie. "Term"), of "Social Groups", in that List of "Recent Discussions", to that of the "Name" of the actual/particular 'Group'.

    FamilySearch Help

    'Category' = Suggest An Idea

    HOME > FAMILYSEARCH HELP > SUGGEST AN IDEA

    Suggested Enhancement. Community.FamilySearch Forum. Include NAME of 'Group', in RECENT DISCUSSIONS

    https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/108899/suggested-enhancement-community-familysearch-forum-include-name-of-group-in-recent-discussions

    https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/108899/suggested-enhancement-community-familysearch-forum-include-name-of-group-in-recent-discussions

    But ...

    That Said ...

    I did not think about, including a reference, that such ''Group(s)"; being, a "Private" 'Group' - where applicable.

    [ Nor, a BETTER outcome, when one tries to access such ... ]

    Certainly, a good suggested enhancement.

    And, 'Yes', simply indicating, with the likes of a "Pop-Up" 'Message', that one CANNOT 'access' such post; as, such, is from a "Private" 'Group', rather than, that WHOLE page/screen of ... "Permission Problem. You don't have permission to do that.", with that HORRID "Face' 'Background', would be much better.

    Even, better still ...

    Here are two (x2) possible options, that could be considered ...

    [ 1 ]

    There SHOULD be, the "Option", to "Follow" a 'Group' (whether a "Private" 'Group' or not) ...

    Like there is, to "Follow", a 'Category', in 'FamilySearch' "Help" ...

    x

    And ...

    IF, one is a member of ANY 'Group'; THEN, only the posts from the 'Groups', that one IS a member; and, IS "Following", should appear in one's List of "Recent Discussions".

    Just one possibility ...

    [ 2 ]

    This one, would take up, much more room ...

    But ...

    That Said ...

    Still an option ...

    In one's "Profile", in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum ...

    Really ... under one's "Notifications Preferences" ...

    Why not have a List of, at least, the 'Groups', that one is a member (if any) ...

    With a "Column", for the likes of, "Include in Recent Discussions"; &, the ability to, 'Enabled'; or, 'Disable', such.

    Just one possibility ...

    Of course, I was originally thinking of a List of ALL 'Groups'; but, that would be ridiculous (way too LARGE).

    Just my thoughts.

    ps: that "x" in my previous 'Comment' was this "Image" ...

    ..... [ I was not game, to try an "Edit", my 'Comment', for fear of the 'dreaded' ... ]

    ..... [ "Your comment will appear after it is approved." ]
