Conflict Resolution
The popularity of this site and its open source format, has created an atmosphere of conflict to the point where people are acting badly towards one another. While I greatly appreciate others sharing information that I was previously unaware of, often that information is incorrect or seriously flawed and without references. People are changing and inserting information that removes or confuses work by others that may actually be the correct information.
A system should be carefully devised to reduce conflict and ensure accurate information rises to the fore. This will help alleviate animosity amongst your users and provide a more accurate picture of history. A first step in this resolution might be a message window on each person page where contributors can more politely discuss these issues rather than just wiping out someone else's hard work.

I really like this idea! Something similar to the programming site Github as a model to have conflict resolution.

Joe (and, Alexander)
Welcome; as, you are BOTH rather new, to this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
[ But, one who has been participating for a number of Years ... ]
Just in passing ...
You are not alone ...
Great suggested enhancement.
But ...
That said ...
Certainly NOT new ...
The, matter; and, suggested/possible mechanisms, of "Conflict Resolution", for use, in 'Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', have been raised and debated, in the various 'iterations', of the 'Feedback' Forum(s), for 'FamilySearch', over MANY Years.
Please be aware that ...
It is NOT as EASY as MOST of us think ...
Things can be MUCH More involved than most of us realise ...
There are MANY "Pros and Cons", of the various suggested/possible 'Forms', of "Conflict Resolution", for use, in 'Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', NONE of which, 'seem' to stand out; as, a 'front runner' ...
There are ALREADY methods of "Collaboration", in 'Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', that in many cases are quite successful.
Unfortunately, when two "Parties", are on opposite ends, of the spectrum; and, neither, is willing to "Compromise", not much can be done.
I know; as, a 'go between' (ie. an UNRELATED, you might say, IMPARTIAL, "Party"), I recently offered, quite a RESAONABLE "Compromise", to two (2) Users/Patrons, that may (in fact, should) have been sufficient, to cover, the concerns, of BOTH "Parties"; unfortunately, ONE "Party" DID NOT like the compromise, not wanting to yield; and, the OTHER "Party" just/simply removed themselves from the MEET, upon (ie. due to) the response of the "Party", who did not like the compromise - that DISPUTE continues.
"Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', is NOT for EVERYBODY ...
Unfortunately, most new (and, some old) Users/Patrons DO NOT understand the basic 'nature' and 'premise' of "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', when they join in.
------------------
We do not have our OWN "Tree", in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch'.
We ONLY have "Branches" (ie. Ancestral" lines), that are interconnected, in this SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is, "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch'.
"Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', is NOT like 'On-Line' "Websites" (eg. "Ancestry_com"; or "MyHeritage_com"; or, the like); and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes (eg, the OLD, now no longer supported, "PAF"; or, "Ancestral Quest"; or, the like).
We DO NOT have "Private"/"Personal" 'Trees', in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', like other 'On-Line' "Websites"; and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes.
We do not even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, the "Deceased" individuals/persons, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch'.
And, most importantly ...
We DO NOT even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, Our OWN "Deceased" Ancestors/Family/Relatives, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch'.
"Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', is built on a "Open Edit" Platform - hence, why any registered User/Patron, can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change), ANY "Deceased" individual/person, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch'.
------------------
"Conflict Resolution", in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', has not always been handled well, even by 'FamilySearch'.
The, matter; and, possible mechanisms, of "Conflict Resolution", for use, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', may seem simple; but, unfortunately, they are NOT.
Plus, adding the likes of a User/Patron mechanism, of "Conflict Resolution", for use, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', may simply 'stifle', the 'Participation', in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch'.
For serious matter of "Conflict", 'FamilySearch' MUST often step in; and, does.
Unfortunately, in such cases, there is often NO "Winner", simply disgruntled (now, former) Users/Patrons.
Hence ...
WHY, many Users/Patrons, simply STILL maintain, a PRIVATE / PERSONAL "Copy"(/"Copies"), of their "Ancestral" Lines, in/from "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch'; as, a "Database(s), in the likes of, 'On-Line' "Websites" (eg. "Ancestry_com"; or "MyHeritage_com"; or, the like); and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes (eg, the OLD, now no longer supported, "PAF"; or, "Ancestral Quest"; or, the like).
Again ...
Great suggested enhancement.
But ...
That said ...
Certainly NOT new ...
Just my thoughts ...
We can but live in hope ...
I know that this may not help/assist; but, I hope that this may provide you, with some additional, insight; and, perspective.
Brett
