Limit my Trending Discussions to the language that I am currently set to.
I noticed today that I was getting discussions from groups whose main language was not English (which is what I am set to) Wouldn't it be more useful to not have these other language discussions showing up in my Trending Discussions? Can you set the language filter to filter out all the groups that are based on languages other than the one that I am set to?

That would make sense. I can usually get a sense of what someone says through google translate, but if I then translate my response back, it can come out really weird, so I usually respond in English, but also put the Google Translate translation and note that it was done through Google Translate so any incorrect language isn't blamed on me!
Initially we started with just English here on Community, so now that we are getting more and more languages available, more people who are native to those languages are coming on board. I can see that I could get tons of irrelevant discussions simply due to the number of languages if the language filter doesn't filter them out.

When I see an interview on TV a question is often put in English, but the answer given in the native language of the person being addressed. I do not see that as unreasonable, even if that person can speak fluent English. Likewise here - if you want to understand the response (often in Spanish) just go to Google Translate and paste the text there for translation to English.
Often, people can read another language well enough, but find writing in it more difficult. Why should they do the translating to English, when it is just as easy for us to do so?

My point on this is just that if I am set to English as my main language, then I shouldn't see Discussions appearing in my Trending Discussion stream that have been posted in groups that are intended to be other languages. It just puts lots more irrelevant discussions in my stream.

Sorry I was not careful enough in identifying your specific problem here.

Yeah, no worries. It is just what I posted, an IDEA of a way that the system would work better. At least, I think it would work better that way! :)

I believe Anne is primarily referring to "trending" discussions brought across from groups where questions/answers would more commonly appear in a language other than English.
In a "general situation" (e.g. posts on "Suggest an Idea") I believe many would answer in their own language in case their (possibly poor) English was misunderstood, or to absolve themselves of any responsibility for the version of their comments offered by Google Translate!
Okay, this could work "both ways", but I can understand why a member of this forum (whose native language is not English) does not want a possibly defamatory / ambiguous (badly translated) statement credited to them!
However, as Anne explains, this is not the main issue of this topic.

In order for this idea to work, discussions would need to have a language identified. They currently do not, and I cannot think of a way for them to be so labeled automatically.
(The highlighted discussion in the original post, for example, is in French, but in a Polish group.)
I am still somewhat baffled by the regular commenter who answers all sorts of random English questions in Spanish, using the Spanish versions of boilerplate text that's available in English. Some days, I encounter so many of them that I feel strongly tempted to try the "flag" function on them. (I haven't, yet, but I think it's only a matter of time.) Yes, we can all apply our favorite machine translator, and between two related fixed-syntax world languages like English and Spanish, it'll likely even work pretty well, but why the wrong-language boilerplate? I mean, I can fully sympathize with being able to read a language but not write in it, because that's exactly where I am in German, but how does that excuse copy-pasted text in the Wrong Language?

Well, actually that is exactly the point. While the individual discussions cannot be labeled with a language, the group is. So filtering out the groups that are not in the set language should be pretty straight-forward.

'G'Day', Anne
Just in passing ...
Question(s):
Do you mean, "Trending" in, the "Welcome": https://community.familysearch.org/en/
Or, do you mean, what appears in, "Recent Discussions": https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussions
From your "Image", I believe, that it is the latter ...
My initial confusion arose; because, you used the 'Word' of "Trending"; as, as far as I was aware, there is NO "Option", to select "Trending", in "Recent Discussions"; as, there is, in the "Welcome".
Now ...
That Said ...
Providing such is the latter ...
We SHOULD, be able to "Limit", what we 'see', in "Recent Discussions", through our "Preferences" in our "Profile", in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum; but, unfortunately, we CANNOT.
I have various "Preferences" enabled (ie. "On"); whereas, others as disables (ie. "Off"), in my "Profile", in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum; so that, I DO NOT 'see', certainly "Categories" and associated posts, in my "Notifications" either,
(1) 'On-Line'/'On-Screen', while working in the Forum; and/or,
(2) under my "Notifications" 'Bell'; and/or,
(3) through "E-mails".
Unfortunately, such (ie. the "Preferences", in our "Profile") DOES NOT 'seem' to work, as well, for the posts, that appear, in "Recent Discussion"; when, I would humbly suggest, that such SHOULD.
Perhaps ...
"Mentioning", the "Administration", of this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, into your post; so that, they may be able to either, enlighten us; or, consider, your suggested enhancement, may help/assist.

While the individual discussions cannot be labeled with a language, the group is. So filtering out the groups that are not in the set language should be pretty straight-forward.
But that would likely filter out many posts and comments that were in the set language. (About every fourth or fifth message in the supposedly-Hungarian sections is in English.) And it would do nothing about the aforementioned regular Spanish cut-and-paster, for example. And the last thing I want or need is yet another source of fragmentation in this forum; I'd like to be able to just get to and read all the stuff I'm interested in, regardless of which language it's in.

Yes, I started from the Home page's Trending Discussions and clicked the View All at the bottom which then takes us to the Recent Discussions. I don't know if I like that it changes like that, though. Wouldn't you expect that if you are looking at Trending Discussions and you click View All that you would go to all the discussions in Trending order still?

I DO NOT even bother, with the "Home"/"Landing"/"Welcome" page/screen, for this Forum.
As, I have NO interest in what is ... "Trending" ...
Among other things, I simply have the "Recent Discussion"; as, 'Bookmarked" ..
Hence, quick and easy access ...
I am MORE interested in what is being ... "Raised" ...
Now ...
That Said ...
'Yes', that "View All", at the 'Bottom' of the List of "Trending "Discussions", on the "Home"/"Landing"/"Welcome" page/screen, takes one, to the List, of "Recent Discussions"; and, as, such, that is the way that things are "Designed"/"Programmed".
Like you, I was somewhat surprised ... but, that said, such is NOT totally, out of character ...
But, as I said, I have NO interest, whatsoever, in what is ... "Trending" ... so, I care not ...
Just my thoughts.
