I am indexing in US, Missouri—County Marriages, 1806–1969 [Part O][M9L6-26T] and have the surname O'Neill but the field will not let me put in the apostrophe. Do I enter ONeill?

    Apparently the apostrophes don't matter to the project, so you will have to enter ONeill.

    @Esplin, DeLoy Heaton

    here are the instructions on how to index names for this project. I hope this helps and thank you for indexing.

    • Type names and place-names as they were written. Do not correct misspellings or expand abbreviations.
    • In web indexing, you can include punctuation when typing names and place-names; however, including punctuation is not required.
    • Do not assume a surname for one person from the surname of another person mentioned in the document.
    • Names may have been written in more than one place. Type the most complete version of the name in the data entry area as it was written on the document.
    • Include all aliases, nicknames, or variant names or surnames that were given for a person, separating them with the word Or .
    • Do not include titles or terms, such as "Mrs" or "Jr," in name fields.
    • If you are not sure whether a name is a given name or a surname, type the complete name in the Given Names field.
    • When typing a name that has an apostrophe, such as "O'Connor," do not include a space before or after the apostrophe.

    The surname field will not let me enter the apostrophe. You did not answer my question.

    @Esplin, DeLoy Heaton Just index the name without the apostrophe as ONeill.
