Why or how have all of my messages been deleted?

I had plenty of messages and conversations with others about common relatives. Then this morning I get up and all of my messages are deleted and it says no messages when I clearly had 5 or 6 people I was in contact with. Where did the messages go? Why are they deleted? I did not deleted them.
