Thanking the contributors of one's Family tree ?

Hello All

I received a mail from FamilySearch suggesting that I should thank people who have contributed to my Family Tree. I am just wondering how I am supposed to thank these people when I have no clue about what they contributed nor why they contributed.

The thought might be nice but it really lacks any practicality as I have no intention of doing that out of the blue.

What do you think ?

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

As you state, it is ONLY suggested, that we send a "Thank You", those OTHER Users/Patrons who have "Contributed", to those in OUR "Ancestral" Lines.

'FamilySearch', is merely providing, us an avenue (ie. a way, a service), to give "Thanks", those OTHER Users/Patrons who have "Contributed", to those in OUR "Ancestral" Lines.

IF, one DOES NOT want to avail themselves of such; THEN, one is certainly NOT required to do so.

    Please be aware that ...

The "Campaign", by 'FamilySearch', to provide "Thanks", OTHER Users/Patrons, who have "Contributed", to those in one's "Ancestral" Lines, is NOT new; and, has been around, for a number of years; and, gets 'resurrected', every so often.

Here is a direct link (ie. URL) to the particular "Campaign":

    https://www.familysearch.org/campaign/hc-1

    And ...

    You are correct ...

    UNLESS, you are either ...

    (1) "Following" [up to a MAXIMUN of x4000], certain, ("Deceased") individuals/persons, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', in your "Ancestral" Lines;

    OR,

    (2) TOTALLY aware of, ALL of, the ("Deceased") individuals/persons, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', in your "Ancestral" Lines,

you will not be easily able, to identify, what work, the Other Users/Patrons, have contributed.

    Again ...

IF, one DOES NOT want to avail themselves, of the opportunity, to give "Thanks", those OTHER Users/Patrons who have "Contributed", to those in OUR "Ancestral" Lines; THEN, one is certainly NOT required to do so.

I know that this most probably does not help/assist; but, I hope that this provides you with some, insight; and, perspective.

    Brett

ps: My Wife and I, knew most of the Other Users/Patrons, who had contributed, to our various "Ancestral" Lines; but, there was the odd one or two that we did not recognise.

Your question has answered my question, so thanks!

I'm one of those people who spends a few hours a day linking records to names and improving the general database. Over the years I've made a quarter of a million contributions and added tens of thousands of people to the tree. I do this for fun as an idle hobby, no thanks required.

In the last few days, I've received a number of 'thank you' messages from out of the blue! While I appreciate the well-wishing messages, it's been a bit disconcerting that after years of no messages, I start getting a lot of them with no warning or explanation.

But as far as answering your question goes, I wouldn't worry about it. I'd imagine most contributors are like me: idly making contributions simply for the fun of it. Thanks are nice but not necessary.

Brett,Jaywood3 : Thank You for the responses !! In fact I thought to look up the various contributors myself ,in the past, but I rarely got an answer if any. I will persist.. :):)

Also do you also regret that living members of a Family tree are not displayed ? I think they should be displayed if they agree to be displayed. That would make for interesting contacts.
