Birth Date has No (official) Vital Record
The following record/birth date has no official source that I and my other family member/researchers have been able to find. This record is also contained on the Ancestry website. I am trying to find out where this date came from....perhaps a written family history. While this express date may be completely accurate, it hasn't been found in any official source; census, kirk session records, banns, etc.. It appears that this date was entered by FamilySearch so perhaps you can point me to the official record.
Thank you
Joseph Goodsir
10 October 1746 – 24 July 1826

FYI
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
I just had a quick 'look', in the ("Official' Government) "ScotlandsPeople" Website ...
Like you (and, your Family) ...
I could find, NO reference, to the Birth/Christening, of a Joseph GOODSIR ( M2HP-N13 ) around 1846.
In fact, there were ONLY two (x2) such Birth/Christening, in "Prestonpans"; and, they were in, 1781; and 1789.
I even had a 'look' between 1700 and 1800, for Births/Christenings, for such a 'Family Name'/'Surname' (and, Variants, thereof) just to be certain; and, nothing 'seemed' to 'stick out' - especially around that 'Time' frame (of 1746, give or take a number of Years); nor, that ( "Prestonpans" ) or any other 'Place'.
And ...
As an aside ...
Please be aware ...
That "Birth", was NOT entered/input, by 'FamilySearch' ...
That "Birth", was added, much later, through the "Upload", of a GEDCOM File, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', back in 2017, by a User/Patron.
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/changelog/M2HP-N13/birth
As such ...
IF, you have not already; THEN, I would humbly suggest, that you try attempt to make "Contact" with, the User/Patron, who made that change (back in 2017), through both, (1) "User Messaging" of 'FamilySearch'; and, also, (2) direct "E-mail"; as, an "E-mail" Address exists, for that User/Patron.
[ Hopefully, they may still be alive ... ]
You may get lucky ...
Good Luck.
I hope that this might help/assist, somewhat.

Thanks Brett and Gail
I did reach out to one family member; he referred me to his cousin who input the information. But I've been unable to reach the cousin who also entered the information in Ancestry - the GEDCom file.
I'll keep trying.
Thank you

OK, I'm confused.....I've been looking at the record that was linked by Gail but I'm not seeing anyone to contact. Could you please tell me where to find that?

OK, so there's a Joseph Goodsir (M2HP-N13) who was created (in FS's prior system) based on an IGI entry for the baptism of his daughter Sibylla in 1780. This was imported into the then-brand-new Family Tree in 2012, with all prior contributor information lost, and the entry credited to FamilySearch.
Then, in 2017, a user "Simon Dodge" imported a GEDcom file, and told the import process that this Joseph Goodsir who had a child in 1780 was the same as the Joseph Goodsir in his file who had a birthdate of 1746 and a death date of 1826. If this Simon person had sources for the birth or death dates, he did not add them to his GEDcom file or to Family Tree. You can click on his name in Joseph's profile to send a message via FS's internal system, but after four years, there's no telling if or when he'll get it.
I'm not sure how Gail's link comes into things; it goes to the IGI entry for the christening of one Joseph Goodsir in 1797 (i.e., fifty years later than the one we're looking for). The images are all unavailable, so I can't check whether the year was misread (4 misread as 9), but the days are off in the wrong direction, too: the birth is entered as Oct. 10, and the christening as Oct. 9. I don't know where "Prestopans" is, compared to Edinburgh, but all in all, I don't think the 1797 Joseph is likely to have any relation to the 1780 father.

FYI
'Julie' is correct (in fact, 'spot on'); as, to HOW that Joseph GOODSIR ( M2HP-N13 ) can into "Family Tree".
I just did some further 'digging' ...
[ 1 ]
I 'looked', in the "Genealogies" Part, of 'FamilySearch'.
https://www.familysearch.org/search/genealogies
▬ NOTHING for Joseph GOODSIR ( M2HP-N13 )
▬ But, I did find this ...
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/2:2:38RV-DK4
William GOODSIR ... ( 38RV-DK4 )
Unfortunately = Person Not Found. This person does not exist, has been removed, or is restricted in FamilySearch
And, doubly unfortunately = NO related "Merges"/"Combines".
( 11 Aug 1774, North Berwick, East Lothian, Scotland - 02 Dec 1848, North Berwick, East Lothian, Scotland )
Father: Joseph GOODSIR ( 38RV-DKC ) ... Unfortunately; as, above.
Mother: Sibblie WHITE ( 38RV-DKC ) ... Unfortunately; as, above.
Which was from:
Pedigree Resource File - Dodge Connolly 2016 12 31 from Ancestry
Submitted by Simon Dodge
Submission ID: MMDB-TFK ... ( Person Count: 2,385 )

I also 'looked', in the "Collection" of the "International Genealogical Index" (IGI), in 'FamilySearch'
https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/igi
▬ NOTHING for Joseph GOODSIR ( M2HP-N13 )
▬ But, I did find these ...
(1)
A Joseph GOODSIR; as, a Father; and, Sibilla WHITE; as, a Mother, for a Daughter
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XY2P-MY4
Sibylla GOODSIR, Christened, 23 Jan 1780, Prestonpans, Haddingtonshire, Scotland
Which is ALREADY attached to Joseph GOODSIR ( M2HP-N13 )
(2)
A Joseeph GOODSIRE; as, a Father; and, Sibbie WHITE; as, a Mother, for a Daughter
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F31G-WM7
Margratt GOODSIRE, Christened, 29 May 1791, Canongate, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland
Which is attached to Joseeph GOODSIRE ( MHSR-2FD )
[ Plus, Spouse / Wife, Sibbie WHITE ( MHSR-2FM ); and, Daughter, Margratt GOODSIRE ( MHSR-2X8 )
Certainly worth a 'look' at ...
.
Most of which you are mots likely aware of.
I am sorry, that I cannot be of much help/assistance.
Definitely a 'Mystery' ...
