My question is. When indexing a name like McDonald and you find that the original document shows the name to be written as Mc Donald and not McDonald, are we suppose to index the name as it is written on the document or make one word of it?

Thank you,

Iris Murray

Someone asked this question just recently and if I remember correctly the answer was it makes no difference, but when in doubt follow the general guideline of type what you see.

The computer ignores spaces. Punctuation too generally unless the instructions say otherwise.
