Upvotes are what you get if others like an idea you post to the "Suggest an Idea" category of Community.

Unlike so many social media participants, the thought of getting lots of "likes" and "upvotes" completely underwhelms me - even though I admit I "give" them myself to show my agreement with the helpful comments or positive ideas of my fellow participants here in Community.

An Upvote is an alternative to a Like. It is used on Idea aka feature request posts. Others who want to see the idea implemented can Upvote it.

Upvotes are given by clicking the thumbs-up ("Like") icon below a post or comment. To see what you got them for, click your profile icon at the top right of any Community page, click on your profile name in the resulting box, then click the thumbs-up button in the Reactions section (right below About). Hover over a "Like" to see who gave it.

i thought they were likes, but they arent. I have a "5 likes" badge already for 5 people liking my comments. I still havnt figured out what an upvote is though

The response by Paul W said it was a "like" in the the "Suggest an Idea" category of Community...but then the other responses were different. I too am confused. Good luck!

Upvotes are used in the Suggest an Idea category: Suggest an Idea

UpVotes are strictly in an Idea format. You will see the little voting icon next to an Idea. Mostly these appear in the Suggest An Idea location here on FamilySearch Community.

If you click on your profile picture and choose My Discussions from the drop-down menu and you can scroll through all of the discussions you have posted. (Discussions are all types of post threads where you were the first to post, they include Discussions, Questions and Ideas.) When I look at your list of discussions I see three Ideas that you started. You can tell they are an Idea format by the upvote icon:

If you count up the total number of votes on all three of those Ideas, you have 8, so you have more than 5 UpVotes, but less than 10, which is the next level.

Thank you! This really helps! I'll let my Trainer know.
