Help Finding a FamilySearch Record when you have the information already.

This is Sarah Hill (nee Elliott) - 9WK7-M4X

Based on this I can guess that the record I'm looking for is..

Through trial and error by editing the URLs, I've found it: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VFJS-39J

Hello Mark,
When you are looking at the Person Page for Sarah Elliott 1794 – Deceased • 9WK7-M4X, click to the right under Search Records, on FamilySearch. Change her name in the Search panel to Sarah Hill. You may also need to filter by Collection. Choose census. Click on the name, Sarah Hill for Census 1871, and then click on attach to Family Tree.

Thank you for your reply. I know how to search for records, but in this instance (and many others), even when I know exactly what I am looking for, the search does not bring up the record.
Please try following your own advice for this person and tell me how you get on!
Given that I already know the exact details of the record, is there an easier way of finding the record rather than scrolling through countless incorrect records and people?

@MarkHumphrey1989 With all the info you have, yes, there is a quick way to get to the census:
You have the film number and we assume you know where she was living since you found it on Ancestry.com. So, you can use the catalog to find the census. But you will probably run into some frustration when you do. We see that you can see the indexed from the 1871 census on FamilySearch. But to view the actual census images on FamilySearch, you'll need to visit a family history center or affiliate library. Here are the steps for finding the entries in the catalog.
- Sign in to FamilySearch.org
- Click Search and then Catalog.
- Under the Search for heading, click Film/Fiche/Image Group Number (DGS)
- Enter the film number 830876 (I always drop the leading zeros, but it probably works if you include them).
- You'll see a list of 22 results. One identifies itself as Census returns for England and Wales, 1971, but if you click that one, you have to wade through 25 pages of results to find the one you want. So, if you can find the place where your people lived in the list, you'll probably find it less frustrating. Click one of the "Census returns for..." results. In the Film/Digital Notes section, click the magnifying glass icon for the 1871 entry and you can search the index from home. Or visit a family history center or affiliate library to view images of the census page.

Like you, I have found the 1851 & 1861 census records for Sarah (Hill) in FamilySearch. I see you have attached these to her Sources. (See https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&q.anyPlace=wiltshire%2A&q.anyPlace.exact=on&q.birthLikeDate.from=1790&q.birthLikeDate.to=1800&q.birthLikePlace=England%2C%20United%20Kingdom&q.birthLikePlace.exact=on&q.givenName=Sarah&q.residenceDate.from=1851&q.residenceDate.to=1871&q.residencePlace=england&q.residencePlace.exact=on&q.surname=hill&treeref=9WK7-M4X). However, I cannot trace any 1871 record, either. Where was she resident in 1871? (I do not have a link to take me to the Ancestry record.)
She appears to be the Sarah Hill whose death was registered in the June 1877 quarter, at Warminster - shown aged 85 - i.e. born about 1792. Brixton Deverill (her 1851 &1861 place of residence) is part of that district, I see.
BTW - I assume she is not the individual on the above page that is found at Westwood, Wiltshire in 1871? Wrong age & birthplace if this is her, of course, but that's not unusual in census records. (The "children" listed with that Sarah Hill can't be hers, as she is shown as 71 and they as 8 and 4!)

You provide good advice. If Sarah was still at Brixton Deverill in 1871 the link is right there in the Catalog. I don't know if LDS Church members have similar restrictions, but I can only view this film at a FHC or FS affiliate library, so could not make any further checks (from home) myself.

@N Tychonievich - Yes. Without visiting a Family History Centre or similar, I can usually only see the indexed record. For example, this one from Henry Edwards next door.
This is normally sufficient for me as I can find the images at Ancestry anyway.
However, in the above case of Sarah Hill (nee Elliott) - 9WK7-M4X , I cannot even see the indexed record.

I know exactly what I'm looking for, but it just doesn't appear on FamilySearch, regardless of what search terms I use. I've been able to find the families either side (link 1 & link 2), just not Sarah Hill.
If anyone is able to find the 1871 census FamilySearch record mentioned in my question, please put a link to it. I think it may be blocked.

I also just remembered there are currently issues with the FamilySearch version of the 1871 E&W census. Depending on where you are or who you are, some users are able to see (indexed) records that others can't. Regardless, there are millions of records that are currently missing from the time-before-last they were brought across from Find My Past.
