"Family Search" posted a birth location on LZGY-1X2 without a source

"Family Search" posted a birth location on John Barefoot, LZGY-1X2, without a source. I changed the location to a standardized location so but my family records show a different, but also undocumented, location.

How can I find out why Family Search put the unsourced birth location on my 2nd great grandfather? They must have gotten the location from somewhere.

If you click on Latest Changes, Show All on the right of the person screen and scroll to the bottom, you will see that the original information was added on May 10, 2012. This was the time when the original FamilySearch tree was created.

This information would have come from the forerunner to Family Tree which was the IGI (International Genealogical Index). Whilst it is difficult to be sure without a lot of digging, it is almost certain that this information was added by a member of the Church, probably one of his descendants.

Sources were not added at the beginning. One can usually guess the nature of the source from the information given but that is not always possible.

Hi. I see from your notes that John Barefoot's granddaughter said he was from Scotland. I will therefore give you a link to Wiki which will allow you to investigate this. I could not find the note as to where the birth information came from in family search. My apologies.

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk census in 1841 so he might just be on it

https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Main_Page just type in Scotland to see which records may help.

    Hope this helps.
