Reviewing Church of England baptismal/marriage/death records. Some record parent's surname as infant's surname...others don't. I generally avoid assumptions...even obvious ones...when indexing but in this case, I "assume" every infant will carry the parent's surname????? Instructions says not to assume surname from other names in record but in this case I have to assume child's name follows parents.

Would help us to see the image, if you post the batch number we can be more concise with our answers.

As you have read the Instructions says not to assume surname from other names in record but in this case I have to assume child's name follows parents.

Again we better not assume surnames. If the child's name is alone do not add parent's surnames to it.

Do not assume a surname from the surnames of others mentioned in the document.

If the surname was not recorded or was written as a variation of the word "unknown," press Ctrl+B to mark this field blank.

The researcher will make their own conclusions.

The UK, England, Diocese of Blackburn—Church of England Parish Registers, 1813–2021 [Part B] instructions are very clear NOT to index the child's surname based on the parents surname, both in the example and the field helps.
